Beginning April 23, TV screens around the country will go dark for seven days as millions of Americans take part in TV-Turnoff Week 2007. Now in its 13th year, the event is a national campaign founded by TV-Turnoff Network, a nonprofit organization that encourages families to cut back on their television viewing and instead use the time for healthier pursuits, such as reading, playing, exercising, or just talking. The Network's motto is "Turn off TV, Turn on Life."
Will you be one of the millions to turn off your tv? If so, what will you do instead? (I personally don't have to deal with this 'cause I don't have a tv right now...LOL)

Wow, I am not in the states, however this is the first I have heard about it. Sounds like a great thing though for the people who actually have their whole life revolving around that little box.
I have to admit that the tv is on all the time in my house, even if noone is watching it, kind of sad when u think about it..
For me I think it has to do with the fact that when I am home alone, I need noise around me...

I kind of run a personal year-long turnoff campaign. I currently don't even own a television, and I don't plan on purchasing one anytime soon. The only reason I will ever own a television set is for watching movies with my partner or family occasionally, or hooking up the PS2 and playing video games for a while. Television is worthless these days, for the most part.

Every year we have taken part in turn off TV week. We don't have cable or satellite. My son gets one channel on the TV in his bedroom and he only watches it for an hour maybe 4 days a week, therefore this year I will not be participating just because everyday is turn on life for my kids.

absolutely NOT! I could not go even a day without watching TV. I would go crazy. What am I supposed to do with the kids while I'm trying to cook dinner? They watch TV during that time and when they get up in the morning. It keeps them quiet so I can get a few more minutes of sleep.
I watch TV after they are in bed so I can relax and we watch during dinner. I spend all freaking day interacting with my kids, I need that time at night to unwind.

Haha..no tv for us TO turn off. Homeless and tvless at this time.
Although we don't feel turnoff week really applies since we truly do not watch alot of tv. We do however support this. Good luck with your tvless week.

Wow, I've never heard of this before. Of course with my luck, TV-Turnoff Week starts on the day when "Heroes" comes back on with new episodes. Lucky for me I can DVR the shows that I'm going to miss and turn the tv off. I think that might defeat the purpose though, since I'll be watching twice as much tv next week to make up for what I've missed this week. :P
So yes, I will turn my tv off this week and will be spending time outdoors with my children. We can go to the park, play board games, ride our horses, and I can read to them. And I will try to watch the shows I've missed in increments rather than trying to watch them all in one or two sittings.

No, i will not be participating in this. i have nothign to do with my life other than watch tv, go online, go to doctor's appointments...if you take away the tv i have even less. What will i do then? i will be even more miserable than i am now. So, no, i will not be participating in order to save what is left of my sanity.

I will do that for the sake of environment causes.
let me explain that when i turn off my TV for Week it will save the energy for the week that would be i was using for the TV. now when it will produces from char coal that much energy's source should be saved. and able to make longer for that period. so ultimately it will save the environment natural resources.

Well, the Turnoff Week is pretty fresh to me--a Chinese.
I am not sure what I can do if I turnoff the TV set.
But I can share my experience when I didn't have a tv.
My mum and I rented a small house, pretty small, no room fot the tv set nor the computer.Every evening when we went back home, we usually spent our time on reading. And then we put our books aside and tried to recite what we remembered.Sometimes this activity was just like a game.
But now if the tv set is turned off, I think my nerves will be bad. Absolutely,tv plays an important role in our daily life. For me, tv set,as well as my notebook are extremely important in my daily life.

Well, I don't think I will follow this act. At least it's not going to do any good for my family since sitting in the living room and wactching Tv together on weekends or after suppers have long been a habit of us. We sometimes enjoy the programmes themselves, sometimes we just have a chat over the time.

Well as for me, I am now single and my son lives with his aunt, so I tend to get very bored and very depressed alot. I always keep the t.v. on so I can at least listen to it while I work online and get my work done. Plus it tends to keep me awake when I need to get all of my work done. So I myself will not be joining in the TV-Turnoff Week, as then I wouldn't be able to stay awake to do my work and I would get further behind in getting my business up and running.

I will not be participating in the turnoff tv week. Maybe I will choose a week after my favorite shows go off the air to do this but not this week. I am still going to watch American Idol and Survivor as those shows are nearing the end and do not want to miss those series. I think the idea of doing the turnoff tv week is a very good one but for me it is the wrong time to do it. :-) I usually spend more time on the computer than I do tv, except for when my favorite shows come on.

Hmm considering that after my husband leaves for work the TV goes off anyways. Lol since I am mainly on the computer and cleaning. I'm a busy body most of the time so don't think I have worry to much about doing healthier things or cutting back on my TV or computer time.

i don't live in America but if I were, I would of course oarticipate. It is a good campaign and besudes, you got to save power and money for several days. it would be a good cut-back from the daily routine but I guess I would turn on my tv just once to watch Grey's Anatomy- i can't affored to lose an episode. im ooo addicted to it.

I have never heard of this campaign. funny how we americans tend to think that going one day without television is a huge sacrifice and accomplishment. I could do without the television, but my computer. Now that may really be a sacrifice for me, lol. My husband, I do not think would go along with this tv outtage day.

Right now we have no cable service either so no tv here.We are also not watching any movies either though. We are reading a book together as a family SuperFudge by Judy Blume. We will also play games and go for walks.
