This morning I went for the first of a series of different tests in regards to the aches and pains that I have been going through in my body. I went for a EMG test. I do not recall ever going through this test before as he poked with pins and gave me some shocks in areas where I hurted the most. Good news is that he has pretty much ruled out neuropathy. The only thing that he saw that was of minor concern is a mild case of carpal tunnel in my right hand. I do not need surgery as it is very minor and hardly noticeable. The poking and shocking did not bother me too much. Has anyone been through a EMG test before? What was your experience like? Tomorrow morning I will be going for blood work to be tested for lupas, limes disease, cancer and whatever other diseases or illnesses a person can get. Wednesday morning I go for an MRI on my spine and neck area.

I am really happy to hear they ruled out neuropathy, that is not good to have. Good luck on all the other test. I hope they find out what ever is bothering you and that it is not serious. Have you been checked for fibromyalgia, my mom has it. It can cause your whole body to ache.

Fibromyalgia is a form of arthirtis, it effects your tendons, muscles, and ligaments. If you carpel tunnel gets to bothering you, get some wrist splints and wear them at night. Also when you do sleep, keep your wrist straight, don't curl your hands under your pillow.

I did wear a brace last night to bed though I did put one of my hands under my pillow. Oops! I better stay away from doing that. I just got to the office after having my bloodwork done so now I will have to wait and find out if anything shows up. Thank you for the information.

I have not had been checked for fibromyalgia but may have to ask them about that. I am not familiar with that term. My whole body is aching so that could be a possibility and wonder if that could show up on my blood test tomorrow. I was reading a little about neuropathy and it definitely does not sound good and the doctor was relieved that it was not the problem I was having.

huh? i haven't read your previous discussions regarding your health issues. maybe i should later.
i haven't gone through an EMG. but i guess my mom and dad should soon.
anyway, i am glad to know that you are fine and doing okey. and atleast you let us know how you are doing.
and just sad that you need to go through a lot of tests. but if it is necessary for you and your health, it's better to do it than regret later. i just hope that the results are all okey for you and that you aren't sick at all. sad to know whenever i hear friends on myLot getting sick. so, get well really soon!
you're a teacher right, kevin? hmm. i guess your students are missing you a lot already.
happy myLotting!

I certainly wish that I did not have to go through all of this testing but need to find out what is wrong and how to fix the problem. I am a teacher and have not missed any time yet other than a couple hours here and there to attend to the appointments.

Hi Ken, Glad that you took time to update us as to the status of your health..I have been praying for you..I certainly would not like to have all that poking and prodding done.. You sure were courageous. Blood tests are quite simple any more.. They usually take about 4 tubes from which they do a number of tests.
I have often been a pin cushion and have had many blood tests in my life. I have bad lungs..but they have been well lately.. I thank God for that.
I feel bad you are suffering so much but hopefully your doctor will say that you are basically a healthy person with a few minor aches and pain that certain exercise may help undo ....
Keep on smiling..You are a great person with interesting topics;)+

Thank you for the very kind words Joy. You are definitely a great friend. I may not be on here as much the next few days due to the testing and stuff but I will try. The poking did not bother me very much, except for my right hand and my left foot. Hopefully I will have good news soon and that there is nothing seriously wrong and can be cured soon.

Thank you for the update my friend. I do hope all the tests come out negative. I am so sorry you have so much pain. Typing is not good for the carpel tunnel, as I have it in both hands, and know. My prayers will be with you dear, bless you, M&M

I had my MRI done yesterday morning and am now waiting to hear back from my doctor about the results of the EMG, blood tests and MRI. I will keep you posted when I find out my friend. I am still dealing with a lot of pain right now. Hopefully whatever is wrong with me is not life threatening.

I have had an EMG and I have to say it was one of the worse tests I've ever had. Mine was head to toe as they needed to see the damage done to my spine from the cancer treatments so no part of me was left without being poked with large needles and shocked! LOL While I was getting the test I offered to make an appointment for my ex hubby. Oddly enough the technician said he's had many people ask if they could do that! LOL Keep us informed how you're doing and what they find! I'll keep you in my prayers!

The MRI showed that there is something going on in my neck. There could be some nerve damage or something similar in my neck that is causing the aches and pains. I have an appointment thursday with the doctor to go over the EMG results, which I have not heard back on. I am sure he will tell me about the results and what should be done. The blood tests were fine as they did not find anything wrong in my blood. I guess that I was fortunate not to be poked in every part of my body.

Oh I have had those EMG tests many timesand they hurt like crazy too. I had to have it on my both my arms and wrist before my carpol tunnel surgery. When they ordered the test again the third time. I about cried. I knew what it felt like by then. I had carpol tunnel really bad in both wrists and I waited too long before I had surgery.
I am glad that it did not hurt you. Maybe because I had nerve damage is why it hurt so much. I did not know why it hurt so much.
I am glad that it is not neuropathy though. I am sorry you are in so much pain. I hate MRI's too. I have had a constant head ache since 1986. 24 hours a day 7 days a week. So I have alot of MRI's. Even with the ear plugs, they make my head pain worse. They got till they give me pain meds by injection and a pill to calm me before the tests.

It probably did hurt you more since you had nerve damage though it still is not a comfortable feeling, especially the pins. The shock part was pretty easy and did not bother me. I can not remember if I have had an MRI done before but I have had x-rays done. I am sorry that you have had to deal with so much pain and the carpal tunnel. The doctor said that mine was nowhere near serious or in need of surgery.

Ugghh, I hate tests.
Whenever I've had to have any medical tests done I've been on pins and needles until I know the results....
I hope you're not as worrysome as I've been ;)
I say a prayer for you right now.
I hope that the physical pain of the tests is OVER. I'm so sorry you had to experince that.
You're in my prayers, Kgwat....
Please keep us posted on your progress!

I just got a couple of the results back today as the blood tests were fine and showed no problems there but the MRI showed a problem with my neck that is causing the aches and pains. We are still waiting about the EMG tests which could tell us more about what is going on in my neck. My chiropractor just wants me to rest this weekend. Will post a new topic once we find out what is happening with my neck.

Wow! They are really doing a work up on you!
I guess when I was without notifications for over a month, I missed something.
That last thing I knew was that you sugar level was a little high and your doctor wanted you to come back in a couple of months and test you again.
Now you are going for EMG, blood tests, and MRI?
Oh sweetie! I hope all is well!!!!
Sorry, I have never been through a EMG. But those shocks must have been a bit annoying! Glad to read that you do not have to worry about neuropathy!

They certainly are doing a lot of work on me but it is better to be safe than sorry and hopefully if they do find something it will be curable and I will be painfree again at some point. Just had my blood tests done this morning so now I will have to wait to see if anything shows up there. Tomorrow I will have the MRI done and then it will just be a matter of time before knowing what is going on with me. I am seeing my chiropractor three times this week to help as well so it is a busy week appointment wise. Thank you for your thoughts.

Its great they didn't find anything on the EMG and carpal tunnel isn't a huge deal and can easily be fixed in the future if it gets worse.
I have never gottten an EMG, in fact I haven't gotten any kind of tests period.
I hope yours comes out as something easily fixeable. Much luck to you dear and keep us updated please.

I just got the results back from my MRI and blood tests. The blood tests were negative so that is very good news though the MRI showed something with my neck. It showed central and right lateralized disc protrusion with adjacent spurs. My EMG test results have not come back yet so my chiropractor wants to see what those show.

Oh you prro thing having to go through this barrage of tests! I don't believe I have heard of this EMG before. It may be called something different in AUstralia though. It is a good thing that you are having a multitude of tests though to get to the bottom of the problem. It is worse when you have no idea what is wrong with you than when you have a diagnosis and can have some idea of how to treat it. Good luck to you and I'll say a prayer for you that all turns out to be something simple....

It is possible that it could be called something else there. I feel it is important to find out what is causing my aches and pains so the doctors and myself know how to treat it. It is hard to get better when we do not know what is causing the problem.

I'm sorry that you have not been feeling well and I hope things come out okay for you. No, I haven't had a EMG test before but my boyfriend has. He had carpal tunnel in both hands but has since had surgery to correct it. It sounds like your doctor is doing all she(I think you said it was a she) can to find out what is bothering you. I hope it is nothing serious.

Thank you for your concern about my health and hope the next two days of testing will show nothing serious. I am more concerned about the blood test than the MRI. Keep your fingers crossed. I will be happy if the tests come back negative and that they can fix me with chiropractors or medication. I do not want to hear surgery. The doctor only tested my right hand so I could possibly have it in both hands. The doctor was a he and he seemed very knowledgeable and honest.

Well we'd make good friends I go for my MRI on Thursday April 26. I'm having a brain scan MRI. I'm very woried about it because I had a CT scan March 19 and they found a large vessel has grew through my brain, so now they need to find out excately what it is and what can be done about it. I'll make you a deal...I pray for you, you pray for me.

I will definitely pray for you my friend. I hope everything turns out okay for you and that they can cure you and whatever that vessel turns out to be. That would scare me too to have an MRI done on my brain. Keep me and your friends here posted on what happens. May both of us make it through okay and that we will be fine. I am concerned about the blood tests tomorrow and if they show anything wrong. That probably worries me more than the MRI.

All the best for you for the test you are going to have.It sounds good by your description and hope you will come round soon. Test of different types are always an headache for me as i personally get very much worried when doctors advice for test. I have so far gone to ultrasonogrphy which is comperatively less painstaking than MRI or EMG test. God bless you and all the patients of this kind.

I'm sorry to hear that you are not well. I hope the test result is negative and you don't have to worry about diseases. By the way, someone whom I know ever had aches and pains on his knees. After drinking a natural juice about 6 months or so, his pains and aches are gradually gone. Now, his knees are okay. I don't know if you are interested in knowing more about this juice. If so, please send me a PM. I just hope that you are getting well soon. Have a great weekend!
