I completely agree with SageMother's advice. There's also Joan Bunning's free online course which I have found very helpful called www.learntarot.com - it gives you step by step exercises to help you learn the cards. If you have limited access to the internet you can download the course onto your machine for free or you can buy her book, I think that's also called 'Learn the Tarot'. Mary Greer's book 'Tarot for Yourself' is also great for helping you to learn the tarot intuitively.
Good luck!

One of the best ways to learn your cards is to pull one each day and keep it with you along with a small cheat sheet that tells its traditional meaning. When you have a few moments during the day you can pull it out with the cheat sheet, look at the card, look at its meaning, then look around you to see how the meaning might fit what you are seeing.
There's one thing you have to be aware of though. Once you start actually reading them for others, the traditional meanings won't mean nearly as much as what you FEEL when you look at the card and sit with the person or talk with them on the phone. That is when you truly know your cards. Your intuition will kick in, prompted by the sight of the cards mixed with the enrgy of the person you are reading for.
Have fun!

I recently bought a tarot deck. I haven't started learning how to read them, so this discussion really sparked my interest. Someone asked me a question about tarot cards, so I thought I'd answer it here. The person said that you can pull a group of cards for a reading, but then you could put them back and pull more cards and get something totally different. What is your response to that? I'd like to know what to say.
