A kingdom of your own

What would you do if you suddenly discovered that one of your long lost ancestors or relatives has bequeathed an island to you. An easily accesible island that has a population and is fertile, it has a tiny economy of its own and is not a part of any country but is a kingdom and you are the king/queen. To put a twist into it, let us imagine that it has a precious resource under its soil and if you begin mining it you will be rich beyond imagination but this will affect the people living there.

I think I will sell it and move to the town, because it's quite scary for me to leave alone on an island

I would leave it alone. If I am comfortable I'm happy. If the people are happy, maybe occassionally pulling one of these things out of the ground to sell, fine, but lets let well enough alone.
