Who is Abby? Why do people always ask her questions?

In this colum I read some jokes,bebinning with "Dear Abby". I enjoy the jokes but I don't quite understand.I want to know who is Abby and why people ask her questions. Anybody knows? Thanks!

Dear Abby is an advice column in newspapers nationwide (USA). readers mail in questions about their relationship or money problems..to get her advice. i believe her real name is Jeanne Phillips, the Dear Abby advice column has been running for many many years now.

i found some info...actually the column has been running since 1956..originally by Pauline Esther Friedman Phillips, it is now written by Jeanne Phillips (her daughter) here is a link with LOTS of info on the subject. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dear_Abby

dear abby is an advice columnist named Jeanne Phillips who has been doing this for along time.people ask her for advice for their problems and she answers the best as she can.
