Eversince I was disagnosed to be diabetic Last November of last year my blood glucose has returned to normal and there was no incidence that my blood glucose has risen to abnormal level again. I have had two FBS tested plus HBA1C and my kidney was checked and liver test alll resulted to normal readings. What does this tell. My doctor said I should continue my medications despite the results although she lowered the dosages already since I might be overdosing myself with it. Is there an incidence that a Diabetic can only be temporary since I only had once diagnosed to have a high sugar level and that was when I got hospitalized for fever but after that event I was all okay since then and blood glucose are always on the normal level.

Once it has been determined you were diabetic it is unlikely you can just forget about it. The test you talk about only tell what is going on right now so is not a predictor of the future. You are what may be considered boarder line. Your doctor is right to continue to check you because it is highly unlikely you can forget about it now. It is possible you will be fine but from now on it is something to watch. At age 8 my son had many of the classic signs of being a diabetic. Loss of weight, hungry and thirsty all the time. We thought it was just part of being an active boy. Then it hit us what could be wrong. The doctor did an FBS and the result came back no problem. We were relieved. But the doctor wasn't satisfied with that and later took another one. There was no doubt about it then. Now that is not your case. You have had a temporary indication so your pancreas is still producing insulin. You may go on and be fine for quite some time. But your doctor will want to keep a close eye on this from now on. Don't worry about it however. Adult onset is often easy to control and will not cause much of a lifestyle change. And you may never be faced with that anyway. But you need to know treatment for diabetes is better than ever. My son was 8 years old when he contracted it and he just turned 37 and doing well. I warn you however to not take information you find on the Internet as all you need to know. While some of that information is good you never know what is bad. Get your information from the source….your doctor or the American Diabetes Foundation. Can’t go wrong there.

From what I know, diabetes, as long as it is not the inherited type, is curable. However, there is always a higher chance of getting it back so maintenance medicines are often prescribed. If you want to get rid of the medicines altogether, I believe that the best thing to do is to keep up your proper diet to keep your sugar level low and attend to your regular check ups :) Eventually your doctor will tell you when you don't need them anymore. A few of my family members are diabetic so I've heard a lot about it :P Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Well I got this only two years ago. And for the past two years my sugar level have never rose up to abnormal levels. But then even so it is within the normal range the results still is on the border line but I have maintained the level at that for the past 1.5 years already. I experimented on stopping my medication and last month when we had our annual physical exam the results were again normal and even my cholesterol and liver test became normal. So I guess I don't need the medication anymore. I just watch my diet every now and then. Later in life I guess time will tell when diabetes will again haunt me. but for now I won't be allowing this disease from touching me as long as my resistance would remain.

That's a wonderful frame of mind. I do believe that with your kind of attitude, you would be able to avoid the damage diabetes can cause.

dear rsa101, as far as my knowledge stretches, one needs to have regular medication for diabetes. My father was a diabetic and he was required to have regular doses of insulin.. i believe that diabetes can only be controlled, we cannot get rid of the disease completely.... i dont know if i am right...... please correct me if you have latest information about diabetes as i too am likely to have it due to hereditary nature of the disease.

I guess you're right it can be controlled but never fully cured from the disease. I think you should have yourself checked up too if your family has history of it.

it's good for you that you will be able to normalized your blood sugar..sometimes, if your food intake is not good, there is a tendency that your sugar will go high..i agree with your doctor that you need to continue your medication because you cannot always say that your sugar will always flow into normal level..but i'm happy for you and keep up the good work..and be careful not to have wound..good luck..

Yeah that is true.... It is hard to do so since when you go outside there are plenty of foods that tempts you to eat it. Although I am happy that there are restaurants that really offer sugar free foods and I also started seeing foods that are sugar free already. I think society is recognizing that sugar is really not very healthy and they are starting to introduce foods that have less sugar or no sugar at all.

If you were diagnosed with diabetes, you are diabetic and will be for the rest of your life. If you are now having normal blood sugar test results, that is the goal of the medication you have been prescribed. You must continue to take the medication and watch your diet for as long as you live. The complications of diabetes are kidney disease, circulation problems in your legs and feet, blindness, more risk of heart disease, and greater risk of stoke. The reason you take the medication is to keep your blood sugar levels normal to help prevent the complications. I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2001. My blood sugar at the time of my diagnosis was almost 400. Now, it stays in the normal range, but it is because I eat right and take my medicine. Diabetes has no cure, and if your doctor has diagnosed it, you have it.

Just like my doctor said it would be. Anyway as they say its a traitor disease since the disease shows no sign at all but deep inside your body its causing you damage already so its really a blessing that I was diagnosed early on to stop it from progressing but I know in the future I would succumb to it when I grew older.

Hi rsa101. This is exactly what happened to me. Last November I just felt like doing an FBS since I recently acquired a medicard so it's free. To my shock, the doctor said I was diabetic. So I was given a lot of medications like Metformin and Lipitor for the cholesterol level. The doctor mentioned though that if I was able to reduce my weight by 5 kgs, he will be taking me off medication. And that's what I did coz I really hate Western medicine (i prefer alternative medicine--herbal supplements). I followed my diet, had lots of exercise and presto by March I was down by 5 kgs and my sugar level dropped to normal. So that is the same question I had in mind but I also learned something out of this experience that with determination and choosing the right food and exercise, you'll be able to turn around this illness. (by the way, I haven't been taking any medicine now coz my hyperacidity came back because of these.)

My blood test, based on the latest tests I have, returned back to normal. Before I had my SGPT and SGOT high and my cholesterols was also quite high already. But now everything went back to normal for two consecutive blood test already. I did not take medications for cholesterol but I did took supplements for the liver. Its all because of dieting and medications. Right now I am on my diabetic medication which was lowered in dosages further by my doctor.

I am sure that this could happen especially if you are watching what you are eating. I used to have migraine headaches all the time but I got out of a very stressful situation when I got married and within a couple of months I was off my medicine that I had been taking for years. I think that the body can repair itself just keep checking your sugar and if it doesn't increase ask your doctor what they are going to do about your meds.

Sometimes I feel that I was misdiagnosed. It's good that you've been out of your migraines at least that one you still can get out of it. From what I know once you've been diagnosed as diabetic you'll be labeled for life as being one.

There is no cure for diabetes yet! and there is no such thing as a borderline diabetic. You are either a diabetic or not a diabetic. You should get checked again. There is a chance that you are not a diabetic and never was. Sickness, stress and excitment can cause a surge in your blood sugar. That is one of the first things they check when you are in a car accident. High blood sugar is sometimes the reason people go into shock after an accident. Even if you are a diabetic you are doing a great job of keeping it in control and your medication is working. I salute you!

That is what my doctor is suspecting since I was diagnosed when i was having an on and off fever. And since I was diagnosed to having a Fatty Liver it could be that the liver may have produced excess sugar by lessening the loads of fats from the liver. Right now I am proud to say that all that was abnormal has turned pretty well normal including my problem with liver. I hope I could maintain this status for life. What I am trying now is to boost up my good cholesterol since that is where my doctor is concerned now being quite below the normal levels but my cholesterol levels are on the rnormal range right now.

My mother in law also have been diagnosed with high blood sugar.she has to take regular medicine.actually she was once diagnosed earlier around 5 years ago.At that time the sugar level became normal after soeme time with decrease in sugar eating thinhgs. At that time doctors told her that it was temporary due to some imbalance.but now it has reamined high.I don't know about you but if you stop medicine now & your sugar is normal than no worries. You can check it this way.Otherwise you have to take medication.

Well I really think that i am still diabetic. But for several blood tests I had it always shows that my sugar levels are always normal. i just don't know if that happens only during when my tests are done. I think i would just follow what my doc has said to continue drinking medicines to maintain or control my sugar at bay. I guess this is the best solution at the moment. My doubts are still there but I want my sugar levels to stay this way to prevent full blown diabetes.

Diabetes can be discovered by chance. It is often discovered as result of routine urine test - sometimes during insurance examination. Once the diagnosis is made, the person may admit to feeling slightly thirsty or tired or to having inching, but these symptoms are often not very dramatic, and they may have been put down to "old age" so in older people diabetes can take a less obvious form. Even though this type of diabetes seems to be minor problem, it must be taken very seriously, as so called mild diabetes can still lead to problems with vision and circulation. In any case, most people feel much better and more energetic once their diabetes is controlled. This can often be done by diet or by diet or tablets, although insulin injections are occasionally needed.
