My 6 month old has just started on solids. I've tried sweet potato, potato, carrot and pumpkin combinations, but I need some more receipes and suggestions! Did anyone else cook for their babies? What did you feed them? Can you recommend any good cookbooks? I really want to find a pumpkin soup recipe for her....but anything would be a great help!

I do. i just boild or bake the vegetables and then puree them in blender, adding the cooking water till its really thin. she is 9 months old and i have given her lots of vegetables, everything i could th ink of. She really like squash. I use the jars of food for fruit though, cause i'm lazy i guess. :P I have not tried meat yet, but when she gets the hang of chewing i will give her small peices. I recently started giving her cheerio's too. she likes them but i had to break them in half, and she doesn't realize she can put food in her own mouth yet. i gotta feed them to her. that or she's lazy too and she knows i'll do it for her LOL. Good luck, if you want more recipies anyways here's a website i think you may find usefull: http://www.canadianparents.com/CPO/CanadaCooks/BabyFood/home.html

Have you tried peas, beans, beets and squash yet. My kids loved those. My grandkids loved avocado just mash up very ripe ones they are very good for you. Any vegetable that you can puree will be fine but only introduce one new food at a time to watch for food allergies.

Check out wholesomebabyfood.com. It's the best website I've found for information about making your own baby food and there are a TON of recipes. I have several of the popular infant and toddler cookbooks but I wasn't impressed with any of them. They tell you how to steam carrots and puree them. Who needs a recipe to tell them how to steam carrots and puree them??? C'mon now. I'm not a cook by any stretch of the imagination but I can figure something like that out on my own. The internet is really your best resource. Or be creative and make up your own recipes! Look through a regular cookbook, pick a simple recipe, and modify it a little bit to be more baby friendly (omit spicy ingredients or unnecessary herbs and spices, add extra liquid and vegetables, ect.). As far as suggestions for new things to try go, how about peas, green beans, corn and squash, mashed potato, avocado, broccoli and cauliflower, applesauce, mashed banana, peaches, pears, mango (my 6 month old daughter LOVES ripe mashed mango), papaya, blueberries, and whole milk yogurt.
