I've learned that the profession of "editor" really encompasses a wide variety of jobs. What sort of editing do you do? Do you edit a newspaper, magazine, books, or something else? I currently work as a documentary editor, which is the editing of historical documents for publication.

I am also an editor. I edit magazines and books. Yes, the job of an editor emcompasses a wide variety of jobs. Formating the text, whether of a magazine, newspaper or books, form part of the editor's job. The general appearance of the material, plus the textual arrangement come under the editor's work. Even the proper arrangement of ideas for better flow and better understanding is part of the things an editor is expected to do. Some times, some people just jumble up words and expect the editor to fix the whole thing. Even when copy typists mess up a document, they expect the editor to clear the mess. Proofreading has also become part of the editor's job, leaving proofreaders quite jobless

I love magazines since childhood. Later in life during college years, I found myself becoming a feature writer. Then later on I was tapped to edit our school journal. After some years I now edit a news magazine. Surprisingly, because of financial constraints, the company still trusts me in writing the news and in designing the overall layout of the magazine. Plus, I supply the photography needs. All of these stuff goes under my editorial guts that's simply as me.:)

I edit a national monthly. I'm new here, but judging from the number of responses, editors are relatively few on MyLot.com.

It does seem that editors are pretty few and far between on myLot. But it's always nice to meet another! :)

Heh! I haven't actually made corrections on a menu or something else, but I have felt the urge to do so, from time to time. :) My former boss and I recently had a book that we edited come out, and the company that published it sent us a copy of the press release... on which I found several errors immediately. Unfortunately, they had already sent it out!

Me too. So are you like me? I once got in trouble for editing a menu at a very fancy restaurant and handing it back to the waiter, who brought out the manager. I mean, they couldn't decide on the same small menu whether the entire entree was capitalized, or if it was lowercased after the initial cap. My wife hates it, but it's hard to turn off and when you see glaring style you can't help but say something? The manager was nice about it, and even brought out the next draft menu for me to look at, but my lovely bride was trying to find a hole to hide in.
