I've been looking at others' discussions and looking at my own discussions, and I wonder if I was making quality discussions. A lot of my discussions are about life, relationships, people and things in general that had happen to me or people close to me. Do quality discussions have to be about education, science, politics and etc...?

I think you have been doing pretty good really. :) You have been keeping me busy. LOL I do not like discussions that are jokes...what am I supposed to say to that? "That was funny." But then I would have a one liner that is not allowed and would bring down my star and earnings. Or recipes...I do not like recipe discussions because what am I supposed to say to that? "That sounds yummy!" Again...same as above. I think quality discussions are those that make a statement and ask for a person preference and opinion. Jokes and recipes can not generate much. Besides, I am borderline diabetic...so most of the stuff posted, I am not allowed to have anyways. So, I think you are doing well. :)

I don't think it does. I wouldn't understand it much if it did. I like simple disscusions. I usally start one about something in my life also. Like about a family member or a tv show I like maybe.

So many topics to pick from when starting a discussion. The key is to make sure that discussion is thought provoking & will require more then a one word answer. If we can remember these simple steps, all is well in my opinion:-) .... I hope all is well with you & yours massageeh??? .... Another great Question:-)

I have seen a lot of your discussions and have even responded to them. Why do you question your ability to discuss. You have got high class discussions. And how can you assign quality to certain specific topics. My friend, quality is everywhere, everytime. You just have to feel it!

I'm not sure what qualifies as a quality discussion. Perhaps it is one that generates a lot of quality replies, then what would quality replies be? Without myLot giving us more details, we are only going to be able to speculate. I think it might be with the discussions, if they generate a lot of interest and it might have to do with time. They might calculate the time period when the responses are made, and how much detail the discussion contained. I don't think one liners would count very highly using this method. Do the discussions have to be about politics, science or education etc? I think most people can find a wide variety of things interesting, including those which you mentioned but also trivial every day things can be of interest because we talk like that in reality. It is a more natural conversation to talk about every day events. Also a lot of people do find debates interesting, but there has to be like minded people willing to debate and discuss these at the same time. Also what is popular can change quickly from one day to the next. I hope this has been of some help in understand the possibilities of what makes for a quality discussion. :)

Thats a good point. If we superficially measure 'positive/good' discussions by the amount of replies we ignore a lot of content. For me this brings out a problem inherent to the internet these days. How do as users make sense of discussions with over a 100 replies? What does that mean, obviously some people had a good discussion but with 100 comments some are bound to be spamy and some are bound to be identical in content or rather just people agreeing with each other on one argument. Someone on the net has to figure out a way to structure so many replies so they can be read and judged quicker, involving polls helps. But maybe this raises another question when you start playing with the structure of comments you are bound to change the nature of the discussion. Is this a quality discussion? If so what makes it so

good discussions challenge readers to rethink what they know, the knowledge can be from any aspect of life. honest discussion can help refine any idea. the people involved must be a big factor too

I think a good quality post is one that is sensible to do with the actual topic and is more than just a couple of lines, so I think it is about quanity as well as quality, so I think one has to contribute more than one ot two lines...

I agree. I try to post quality and at the same time try to get over 4 lines. But, sometimes its not that easy.

I think that some time we can provide a quality to the discussion. Some time the potential for quality discussion lies inside the main postic but itis not explore properly! How we look towards the things put here has also a point, but i do agree with you that here so many things are postedwhich are very casual and need just a practical handling as an issue! I tried to look such posting from their point of view and then also find not ok then I just go ahead!

I personally think that quality is very subjective. Discussions about education, science, politics, life, relationships, parenting, health are just topics to me. It's the points that the user raises and the perspective of a user that makes the discussion interesting. Then again, not many mylotters are into such discussions ( i might be wrong ). I personally prefer replies from many angles. Different perspectives always get a + rating from me. Cheers! - Lyn

Hello, massageeh, I think quality discussions may consists of tow factors, the nature of topic does not relate to the quality, you can start quality discussions in any topics as long as you have enough knowledge on them. Firstly, length is important in makign a quality discussion. It may not be a 50 lines discussions, but one line discussion must be be a good one. Secondly, there should be some descriptions about the posters ideas on that topics so that other members can have replies based on their opinions. Your discussions are of good quality, keep it up. Good luck.

I think it is something that is shrouded in mystery! I post discusssions that I think are the coolest thing since sliced bread and they get no response. Or maybe they will get one response but that is a fluke. Then I will post something from the top of my head that I think, "Now, that's a bit lame, really, no one is going to respond to that" and I get over 20 answers. Ok, that has only happened twice, but nobody was more surprised than me when it happened! I think it is a bit of a crap shoot.
