SC agrees for an early hearing on quota issue

NEW DELHI: After failing to get the nod for pushing the quota regime from the coming academic year, the Centre today got some reprieve from the Supreme Court which agreed for an early hearing on the quota issue.However, the suspense over IIM admissions persists.The SC has advanced the hearing on the issue of constitutional validity of the law providing 27 per cent reservation to OBCs in elite educational institutions to May 8.The SC, while staying the implementation of the provisions of the controversial Central Educational Institutions (Reservations in Admission) Act, 2006 on March 29, had fixed the third week of August as the date to hear arguments on its constitutional validity. Yesterday, it refused to vacate the stay.
