Do you think your country should ban public smoking?

I know that some countries and states are considering whether or not to ban smoking in public place? What do you think?
I personally think it is an excellent idea, as I think so many people are exposed to unvoluntary secondary smoking every day, because smokers smoke in public places.

I'm a smoker, but completely back the ban. It's my choice (or weakness!) to smoke, and I certainly don't think I have the right to expose other people to my harmful fumes.
I don't really like the way I'm looked at sometimes though. In LA I got such awful looks from people when smoking (outdoors!) that you would think I was peeing in the street!

Hello, smartmom, although i smoke,I think it may be a good thing to ban smoking in public places as second hair smoking is not good for health to people who do not smoke,it may even affect people who have respiratory problems, like asthma, they have been suffered a lot from the poor quality of air, they cannot go anywhere if the air quality is really too bad. If people are forbidden to smoke in the public areas ,i think it will be much better for everyone.

I am sorry to say that I am not behind the smoking ban. Wheather you smoke or not is your choice. wheather you go around smokers is also a choice. The government seems so intent on smoking and other issues are being put on the back burner.
Here in Maryland our gas and electric bills have sky rocketed but the government is doing nothing about it. In Maryland we have schools that are falling down and are being closed. There are no new schools being built. These are not important but smoking is.
I thought we were the land of the free. I don't think it is going to be that way much longer. We will be told what to eat oh wait we already are.
Lets take salt off the market all together because there are too many people with high bloodpressure. Lets take eggs off the shelf because they are bad for you oh, wait this week they are good for you.
Let ban all cars, trucks, and other vehicles off the road because they cause pollution and cancer. Once all this is done then I will back the smoking ban 100%. I also find that people who don't smoke are not very nice. Some are very judgemental and self rightous.

I definitely disagree with you on this one. Smoking is something that science has proved to be dangerous both for the person who smokes, but more importantly aslo through second hand smoking. Besides children, so many workers are exposed to second hand smoke through their jobs, and this I find absolutely outrageous. Thanks for your response, all candid answers are appreciated.

California has had a similar law in effect for 15 or so years already, I am so very thankful for it. The only places you can smoke indoors is your own home and Indian Casinos. Other than that, no indoor smoking is allowed, and you must be at least 3 feet (or more?) away from any entrance to a public building.
I am smoke sensitive, so if I inhale even a little bit of smoke, I go into a coughing fit. I know some people do this on purpose, and I get angry stares from smokers who I do this near. But, honestly, it's a natural, non-forced reaction on my part. So, I am glad that it is no longer allowed in California. I only have to hold my breath when passing someone outdoors now!

I think the US should, although I know it's unconstitutional to do so. But on the other hand, I don't want to have second hand smoke from the guy next me while i'm trying to enjoy lunch or whatver.
There was a city in California - wanna say Ojai that banned smoking outside in public. And of course, California is a NON Smoking (insede) state, which is wonderful if you're a non smoker.
