Which dog breeds are the best "house" dogs?

I am looking to get another dog. I had 2 pitbulls when I was in a previous relationship and they were actually great house dogs. That breed has a bad misconception! I believe its in how the owner raises the dog that will determine the outcome of its behavior. How about you? What experiences have you had an what do you think is better, adopting a pet or buying it from a breeder? All ideas, comments are welcomed!!

Any dog can make a good house dog,it all depends on your lifestyle.First of all, I have never(and will never) crate train.I feel bad for dogs that are stuck in a crate all day while the owners are at work. I have never had a dog eat a couch, a wall, shoes, etc. As for garbage I never have it sitting out for them to find.(usually under the kichern sink or a broom closet. I have had many different breeds and the most mellow dog I ever had was a Black Lba/Bassett mix.He was a wonderful dog but he ended up dieing from blastomicosis. It is alway best to check a rescue shelter(I volunteer at one). There are so many homeless dogs and there is nothing wrong with them,it was the people that gave them up.(for whatever reason)

Its all in the training not the breed. I have wolfdogs and their great indoors and out. As for the breeder question, both mine come from rescues. There are enough dogs out there needing homes there's no need to "support" a breeder.

Thanks for the comment, glad to know there are others who agree with me! How big is a wolfdog? I am only looking for a 25-30 lbs at the most!
