Do you let your children ride in the back of your truck? Do you think it's too dangerous? We were never allowed to do this growing up, one time we did this in my friends truck and my mother pulled up behind us in traffic. We ducked down but she still knew we were there. My sister and I were so grounded! But a year later, a classmate was riding in the back of his friends truck when he got into an accident. He died when he was only 16, he was thrown from it and hit his head hard. So I'll never allow my son to do this and hope he listens and remembers about this when I'm not around.

I think that is so dangerous, and foolish. I see that so much around here and I am usually appalled. Anything can happen, look at what happened to your classmate, how sad! I can't even stand seeing a dog riding in the back of a truck, it worse if it's kids.

I would never let my son ride in the back of a truck. Ever. I did once or twice when I was a teenager. It was fun, but definitely not the smartest thing I have done. It's just too dangerous. Especially since the person driving is usually a teenager as well. At least I would hope so. I wouldn't want to think that an mature adult would do that.

I've seen some adults here driving with other adults in the back of the truck, I don't get it at all.

It is very dangerous. But we cant run behind children all the time. Closed trucks are better.

This is a very dangerous thing for anyone to do let alone a child. There is nothing to protect you from injury and there are laws against it in Canada i dont know about other places. I have lost 5 friends from joy riding on the back of a truck. If we were meant to ride in the back of a truck it would come equipped with the proper equipment to do so is what i say and it dont. I do hope your son listen as i hope my kids will too.

I was never allowed to ride in the back of my grandfather's truck, other than just in our appartment complex parking lot. My mom was always affraid we'd get hurt, ane with good reasong too. I won't allow my son to ride in the back of any truck, not even in a appartment complex parking lot...accidents happen there too.

My parents let me when I was a kid but I would never allow my kids to do the same. I'm just to paranoid. I,like you, hope they listen when I'm not around.

No way! It is way to dangerous. The thing about an accident is, you never know when one is going to happen. Just like what happened to your classmate. I bet back then you thought your mother was being harsh, but I am sure you can understand why she grounded you for that long. I bet it was a bit of a shock when she pulled up behind you in traffic.

I really understand now. I understand a LOT since I've become a mother myself, I'm sure other mothers would agree!

That is way too dangerous. There is no protection if they get in a accident. In fact there is no way to strap them down. Kids think they are indestructable and the accident you mentioned in your discussion is a hard way for a child to get a wake up call. Anyone can die just use the precautions to keep it from happening sooner than it needs to.

I can remember riding in the back of a truck, riding on a wheel cover on a farm tractor, riding in the back window of an Oldsmobile, when I was growing up. Now these things would get parents a ticket. In Kansas it is illagal for anyone to ride in the back of a truck. Yes, it is dangerous. I know of a girl that fell off the back of a truck and broke her back. She lived but her life was changed forever.

I think that is very dangerous. I don't blame you one bit for not letting your son ride in the back of a truck. I have never let my kids for that very reason. There are too many crazy drivers out there.

I would never allow my kids to do this. I tried it ones when I was a teenager, and it was a very foolish thing to do, and I regretted it as soon as the truck started driving. I do not even want to drive with any passengers unless they have their seat belt buckled up.

oh, that's a sad story about your classmate. i haven't thought it could be that dangerous. when we were still kids, we do ride at the back of trucks but with adult persons with us. we don't ride at the bac of the truck with just us kids on our own. basically, it's very unsafe. we don't know what will happen. if ever i have kids, i won't allow my kids to ride at the back of trucks. that is pretty scary. anne

I would never allow my sons to ride in the back of a pickup truck for the very reason you described above. It would be so easy for something to happen.

In my native country, yes, we are allowed to ride in the back of the truck, but we only have two lanes and the driver doesn't always go fast coz of the traffic. But everything tends to go slower there. But then here in the US, it is another story. Aside from it is illegal, it is very dangerous with some people going more than the speed limit allowed. I always have my seatbelt on when am in the car and make sure my toddler is all fasten up.

No way would I ever let a child ride in the back of a truck. I have seen it too many times though, people who think it is ok to let their kids just sit in the back on the flatbed. It is far too dangerous.

Very often, we see construction workers riding in the back of the truck. I guess they are used to the dangers and hence they know how to take care of themselves should they ride in the back of the truck. But little children or young adults, I cannot be too sure. I too have taken the back of a small truck and though I like the wind beating against my face, I had to grip very tightly against the side support. I will never encourage people to ride at the back. Now, there is no such problem because in Singapore, it is an offence to ride in the back of the truck :P

I would never let my daughter do that, ever.It is so dangerous. I don't even agree with letting your dog ride in the back of a ruck. I must confess that as a teenager i did do that a few times, looking back now I thank god that nothing happened and I think it was pretty stupid of me to get in. I just hope I am teaching my daughter good decion making skills, i guess all we can do is teach them and hope they don't make bad choices.
