I read this article with my mouth hanging open.
I'll see what you think.
Do you think that gayness can be cured?
Please no flaming.
I realize this will be controversial but we are all adults here so let's be nice.
I have my own thoughts on this after years of psy, soc, health studies.
I'm very interested in how many believe that homosexuality can be changed or cured?

Can hetrosexuality be cured? No because you can't control how people think or feel (short of brainwashing, and i don't really think thats a viable option). To call it curing homosexualityt is also wrong because its not an illness, its a way that people choose to live their life and really there is no reason for anyone to even try and cure it.
Personally i don't understand the problem that people have with gay people, If you aren't gay then no one is gonna make you be gay, so why does it matter to you if someone you don't even know is gay?
So what are your thoughts on this matter?

homosexuality has always existed and just is, and it is time to leave it alone. It is not considered a disease in the medical community and therefore there is nothing to cure.

No I don't believe they can be changed or cured. I think they can be desperate enough to want to be and thus convince themselves that they are but that has to do with how our society treats them. I think also you have some that can be brainwashed into believing such but that doesn't mean they are actually cured. That is like saying someone who is brainwashed into thinking they are Brad Pitt is actually Brad Pitt. They aren't they have just been convinced of it.
Gay therapy is a joke. It's a way to swindle those who are homophobic into getting their sons, wives, daughters, or husbands "cured". It's a way to get people who are afraid to be who they truly are and manipulate their feelings. It's not real. It's just like the snake oil salesmen who would sell their "patented tonic" that cures baldness or anything else you can think of.

No I don't - being gay is not an illness or a disease it is the way a person is - I don't believe that a persons environment or circumstances make them gay! Why should we try to change homosexuals anyway - we are no longer living in the dark ages and gay people are as valuable a part of our communities as anyone else! Live and let live! I bet you feel the same - don't you? xxx

i have alot of gay friends and family, and being around it all the time i've come to think it is a preference as much as whether you like or dislike a certain food. i dont think it defines the person, it is just something to describe them. no one really picks what they like/dislike, thats just the way it ends up.
i hate the argument that people are born that way, like its a gene. some people think this benefits the gay community, but really, it just makes people think of this gene as a mutation, disability, etc. theres nothing that will ever make me believe its a disability. i read that some church was trying to prove that it is due to a gene/chromosome/something and they were wanting to see if it could be fixed in the womb before a child was born. that is insane to me. it just doesnt make sense.
i think they can be "cured" through brain washing. i think if anyone was told how horrible something was for so long, eventually they may believe it themselves. but thats not to say they'll be happy with that new heterosexuality.

I believe you are born gay. You can pretend to like s*x with the opposite s*x but what really turns you on will always be your same s*x.Many people may think they are "cured" but I don't think it works that way.

I don't believe for one moment you can *cure* homosexuality, it just *is*. It is not an option or a condition, it is simply the way that person is.
I have a few gay friends who are wonderful people, one of whom is a fantastic male nurse in a hospice dealing with dying patients every day. He feels that his sexuality makes no difference to the way he does his job, or how he relates to his patients, and family and his friends.

every now and then you read about this strange idea to "cure" gay people from their homosexuality as if this would be a disease. homosexuality is a genetic issue and has nothing to do with your education or environment or how your parents treat you when you was a child. There is no way to change the homosexuality as you also cant change a hetero to a gay person. This would need a genetic operation, like to make a blond person to a dark haired person (without coloring the hairs, of course.) once again: its a genetic factor. Even the catholic church, not really known for their friendship with gays and lesbian, admit, that you cant change your homosexuality, because its given (from god, DNA, whatever). church wants that you dont live your homosexuality (if this is a good thing is another question), but you cant change it.
