Belly button Pierced when Pregnant ...Pretty? Or I don't want to see that?

Have you seen this pic on the ebay ads? - This is a pic that I saw on an ebay ad. No, I did not see a copyright on it.
But I felt the need to share as a part of the discussion for better understanding.

OK, let me start off this discussion with saying that I think pregnant women are most beautiful when they are swollen in belly and ready to pop. :) However, when I was clicking through here on myLot, I clicked and was caught by this image attached to the discussion. I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. Pretty belly...bar stuck through skin. Ouch! Umm...why have a belly piercing like that when pregnant? OK...but why not? Maybe it is my age and I seem to think that pregnant women are beautiful without all that stuff stuck through their belly button. But also when it is stretched out and you can see the holes like this...something tells me it is not pretty anymore either. So, I am on the fence about this and wanted to ask what other people thought about pregnancy belly button bars. All opinions are exactly that, opinions. Please do not get upset as this is a friendly discussion place. *Note...I did search "pregnancy belly button bar" before posting this and nothing was found. I fear duplicating and yet at some point, I get told there is another like discussion. But I did search. :) What do you think of these belly button bars? Prefer pierced or not pierced during pregnancy? And why?

How about i don't think that's safe, sanitary, healthy, of pretty at all. I really don't understand why people insist on sticking metal through their bodies... It's not going to help them get any prettier, and most of the time, it looks absolutely disgusting, but what so many people don't seem to understand is the dangers of having a belly button ring of any kind at any time. These holes that you put in your stomach, they can get infected causing some severe damage, which in many women, have been cause for hysterectomy, caused some serious uterine infections, some more serious infections other places in the internal system (Intestinal tract and so on...) And um, not just that, when your pregnant, this hole expands, allowing a higher chance of dirt, infection and such more to get in there, posing the possibility of getting baby infected or harmed... Why would people want to do that to themselves or their child, I'll never know.... But personally, i don't like the looks of most body piercings, other than the ears, but when it comes to a woman being pregnant - one of the most beautiful and vulnerable situations - it just makes it worse. This did not mean to offend anyone, just my personal opinion and information i've seen in several medical pieces.

Hey, no offense here with me. I hadn't even thought about the infection possibility! Your right...when it expanding, I would think it would increase the risk of dirt and infection. Any infection that the mother may get, effects the baby too. I have heard about people getting bad infections from piercing...I couldn't risk such a thing! Great point!

These where my first, second, and third reactions. The third was after I saw the picture! Hahahaha...LOL :D Ouch, who would want to do that! Ewwww...why did they do that? I am like you though. Pregnant women are beautiful when they have the big, rounded belly...but with the picture that I just saw...that one wasn't pretty. Just because of the distracting, pierce that looks like it hurts. Ekk! I think that belly button piercings can be pretty...but I don't think that you should get one while pregnant. Leave the natural beauty alone. Sorry if I disagreed with anyone, or offended anyone. I checked my mail...and was just excited to read this interesting discussion!! Thanks Brokentia!! :)

Then I did the coming of my eyebrows together :| With the ewww...and the Ouch! I am glad that you agree and I am not a LOSER (L) for thinking like that! Haha :)

I am not fond of piercing of things that really shouldn't be(expect the ears), though i do like the looks of them on rare occasion. I don't much like the look of belly buttons pierced while pregnant, but I do like the looks of them while not. As for the question of being pregnant and having the piercing, they probably don't want to have the hole close up on them, so just leave it in just for that fact.

See, that is what I figured as to why they would have these bars. They are on ebay and I looked at them out of curiosity. ha ha And they are flexible for a pregnant belly. But it still looks wrong to me. Non-pregnant belly...yes, it can be cute...pregnant belly...I'll pass. But I do understand them not wanting it to close too. :)

I agree that pregnant women are beautiful and I see nothing wrong with showing off a pregnant belly. But to be honest, I really don't like the look of a belly button piercing on a pregnant woman. Looks kind of odd, but that is just me. I do know that my sister is 6 months pregnant and has a belly botton ring as well, but the doctors told her to remove it 2 months ago and told her she should do it now because during delivery she can't have any piercings anyways, plus some women get really big and the skin can rip.

Would they make her remove it if it was a flexible plastic bar? Because that I think is why they list this on ebay as a Pregnancy Bar. You aren't the first person that has said they are made to remove it. I wonder if that is really for medical reasons of because of the doctor's personal views.

It is for medical reasons, I'm sure. When I was pregnant I had my eyebrow pierced and I was told that when it got closer to my due date that I might want to remove it just because of the fact incase they have to do an emergancy csecetion it would take them a few seconds longer to remove that because they wouldn't remove it the right way, it would be cut off. They just don't want to mess with it incase they do have to do a csection or anything like that. And sure enough I did have a csection, but I had removed my eyebrow piercing a while back, but they did remove my other stuff, I had my ears pierced as well. I don't know why, maybe that is just the standards for when you have any kind of surgery?

Definitely NOT pierced during pregnancy. I mean, if you had it before you got pregnant why not just take it out before you get really big? I guess I'm of the opinion that belly button rings look good on girls with flat tummies.

I think pregnant women glow and are very beautiful. I don't think the belly button being pierced looks good at all, I'm not a fan of it.

I think that Women who are pregnant are beautiful, too, and I don't see a thing wrong with their piercings as long as it's done safely and professionally... I seen piercings in places that most people can't imagine... and I know several Women who have "art" where "art" normally wouldn't be displayed... more power to "em, I say... Something wonderful for you: http://www.futureclassx.com/bodypaint/bellypainting.htm

I once saw a woman who looked like she was ready to pop. She was wearing cut offs and a tube top and she had a pierced belly button. Now it wasn't the bar type but it was still enough to make me go "Oh my god ewww" although I did not say it aloud. I could care less if someone wants to get their belly pierced but that doesn't mean they have to show it off that way. I'm sorry but to me it looks horrific and painful. I did notice others mentioned the chance of infection. That is a big thing to consider. That belly button isn't always the easiest to wash on a normal day let alone when you are that pregnant. Let alone the stretching of the skin and the itching. I don't think it would be wise to have it when one is pregnant but if they are going to I'd seriously suggest they check with their doctor.

I wonder what a doctor would say. I am sure that if those pregnant belly button bars are all over ebay, then I am certain that doctors have seen them. I can't help but wonder what their reaction would be also. ha ha

With how some of these doctors are they might not even notice. Those that did though would probably have a fit about them. of course if they went to do a sonogram I'd think it would have to come out then.

You know, this doesn't really surprise me. I guess it's what is called a sign of the times? I mean, I'm 42 (43 come September lol) and I had my daughters at the ages of 26 and 29. Things have changed by leaps and bounds since then. When I was pregnant and working, I had some cute maternity clothes but I had to search for SOOOOO long to find something that didn't have flowers, baby bunnies, countdown thermometers or arrows pointing at my belly on them!!! I finally found some nice outfits that were adjustable waistband skirts (that fell to about mid-thigh) and then coordinated a-line style tops that buttoned up the front. They were good for office or going out, depending what you wore with them. Pregnant women, even not that long ago, would never have dreamed of "showing off" their ever-increasing bellies in public. Now, have a look around... pregnant women are wearing belly tops and cropped tops and their full bellies are visible. They wear standard bikinis (not one piece "maternity swimsuits"). Celebrities do this routinely too. It seems to be trendy to be proud of the tummy. I think that body jewelry, like that belly bar, just goes hand in hand with the trend. Personally, a belly piercing isn't my thing (I mentioned that I've had two kids right?? LOL) but I don't object to them on other people in any way. To each her own. However, I can honestly say that I don't find that picture at all appealing.

I wonder if the credit for being proud to show the baby belly should go to Demi Moore's magazine cover some time ago. Because after that, women seemed to start being proud of their bellies. Of course, it was also controversial. But what can you expect from the media. I personally thought she was beautiful!!!

Oh I thought she was beautiful too! Still do. I just saw her on the cover of an ELLE magazine when I was at the hairdresser last week... what a beauty she is. I remember how controversial that magazine cover was, as well. Much less of a ruckus was made when Britney Spears did it for Harper's Bazaar... I guess Demi was the trailblazer for pregnant bellies everywhere! ;)

I think that a woman is beautiful when she is pregnant too.I dont like belly rings on anyone but that would just be gross In my opinion. Of course we all allowed to have our opinion and if someone wants to do it, I guess it is their right. But I would not do it.

I agree. Every woman is beautiful when she is pregnant. I do not like belly rings on anyone either and I think it looks even more gross on someone who is pregnant. That's my opinion though.

I took mine out when I was pregnant. I'm not really big on showing off my belly. Maybe because I'm an ugly pregnant woman lol, I had hair growing and that nice brown line growing on my belly. Don't worry-that all went away after delivery but I looked like a freak. I'm not sure if I like it, to each her own I guess. Now my belly button is so gross, there's a big line going vertical above my button from that piercing, I wish I never had it done.

Wow! Thanks so much for the view of experience!!! And as for that line that darkens, I got it too. I wonder if that only happens with women that have a natural darker pigment to their skin? I am not that dark but can be if you put me in the sun in no time! (But I don't like getting hot.) My sister in West Palm has a different father than me, so she is much paler than I and she didn't barely got a line!

I'm very pale, I'm of Norwegian and German descent so it don't get any paler than me lol. I think most of the women in my family get that, so maybe it's genetic.

I'm like you, I think pregnant bellies are beautiful. I had a belly ring when I was pregnant and had it removed when I was 4 months pregnant before I started showing. I was afraid how stretched out and nasty looking it would be. After having my daughter I started seeing a lot of pictures of women with pregnancy belly rings. Some of them are actually pretty tasteful looking and pretty. But the one shown in the picture you have posted I don't like at all. The ones I have seen that I like aren't bars. The ones I have seen that I like are the type that have a little flower or something dangling from it. I just think those are more feminine and pretty.

I wouldn't get it done while pregnant. I think the poor pregnant body has quite enough to cope with without additional holes and infections. Besides, they are very tender newly pierced and who wants that big elastic band in pregger pants rubbing up against an open wound? Seems slightly crazy and very masochistic. If you were already pierced, well that seems fine to me if you like it. I would prefer something much smaller than that white elephant, though. It really does look like it would be getting caught on things.

If is up to me i will say NO piercing during pregnancy and NO piercing never...lol! Well, definitely during pregnancy piercing will be not my priority, but i have to admit i have no problem to see at another women... A lot of people can have reactions to belly bars as they are made from different metals....or could it be uncomfortable? maybe.Pregnant women should wait until after delivery to get navel piercings because their bodies—the stomach area in particular—are changing so much...but is up to every woman what to make with her body... augusta

I think women are beautiful when they are pregnant the just glow maybe its the fact that they are carryng a new life inside their bodies that shines through. As for the piercing in the belly button well to each her own, I would not do it. But you must admit it does look rather pretty. I just hope it doesnt go all the way through and the baby comes out with a ring in its nose..LOL Good disussion, keep up the good work.

I have never been one to like piercings in a persons body other than the ears. I just do not feel that piercings are attractive anywhere but the ears. I would not like to see a pregnant woman with their belly pierced. If they are going to have a pierced belly it should be before getting pregnant or after giving birth but not during pregnancy. Just to make sure the baby is safe and that the birth goes well, I think it is better to not have a piercing in the belly during pregnancy.

I had a friend who wore her belly jewelry through her entire pregnancy. I was grossed out by it when she showed it to me. Her doctor said it was fine. I couldn't look at it. I can't even look at a belly button piercing on anyone. It give me the willies!

I actually think when i was pregnant the doctor told me that when you are pregnant more than 4 months the request that your remove it because of health reasons. I think if you have one in at delievery they throw it away, because of health reasons too.
