Are birth control pills bad?

I have been on the pill for almost a year now, although I don't feel anything bad, I am just wondering if it's ok to take the pill continously. Is there a limit as to when one should stop taking the pills and do they have any side effects?

I don't think there is a set limit on taking birth control pills. I do know however that some people just cannot take the pills. I am one of them. I have a bad time taking the pills. I developed a rash after trying one version of the pill and then another version that I tried caused my cycle to last for over a month and at a very heavy rate. I think it really depends on the person and their body which will determine what side effects, if any, occur.

Well, first you should pobably consult with a doctor. However, I was on the pill some time ago continuously for about maybe over five years. It didn't really do me any harm. I always knew that there were side effects. How old are you? The pill can have adverse effects for women over 35 especially if you smoke. I am over 35 but I no longer need birth control. I really think each individual handles the pill differently being that there are alot of various types of doses out there. I still say to read the pamphlets and consult with your doctor.

Thanks for the reminder. I am in my late 20s. Its good to know that there isn't really any adverse side effects coming from women who took the pill for a long time.

I was on the pill for 12 years before coming off to have children. I went back on a different pill after the birth of my 1st son and off again for 2nd son. I did go back on birth control pill until the end of 2002 and got an IUD. I tried multiple different forms before deciding on the IUD. Hormore changes as I got older. So total years of birth control pill was about 16 years. One pill gave really dry eyes. Other than that no problems.

I was on the pill for 10 years. I did have to get off, but not b/c of what the pills did. They did nothing to my system. My family comes from a long line of members with hypertension (high blood pressure) and the birth control pills only made it worse. When I was diagnosed as hypertensive, my BP was 280/170. I had lost vision in my left eye totally and was about 80% blind in my right eye. It was that bad. There is no evidence that states you have to get off of them to give your body a rest. If you're worried about hormones, then try a low dose pill such as Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo.
