My 16 yr. old son is in the hospital. Enough to bring any mom to tears.

My son had surgery at 4 am this morning for a pneumo thorax. I cannot be very sure what this is but apparently there was air escaped from the aveolae of the lungs into the vacuum between the lungs and the chest wall. I'm not sure why this happened. He is in fine physical shape and works out regularly, doesn't smoke or drink. The doctor was impressed with his physical condition overall. Anyway, he had to have a tube inserted under his rib cage to the area just above his lung to get the air out. It will be about 4 days before he can come home. He's on morphine for the pain.
I spent all day at the hospital with him. He's still my baby. He wanted me to stay with him too. I should finish this by saying he was already much better when I left tonight than he was this morning.
Please keep him in your prayers for a speedy recovery. He is sad because the doctors told him not to play his drums or work out till at least June. His drums are his life. Thanks for your prayers. (If I don't write a lot in the next few days it's because I'm with him at the hospital).

Oh I’m super sorry to hear this—but am glad that you say he is much better now. It really makes you think when something like this happens. Life is precious!
It must stink for him right now to know that he won’t be able to work out or play drums for a couple of months- Probably seems like forever! You’ll have to find something else fun for him to do to keep his mind off of that! Maybe something that doesn’t use his arms as much-
I’m keeping you and your son in my thoughts-- Hoping for a speedy recovery!

Thank you Kris. Really appreciate your prayers. He is disappointed about inactivity but he wants to rest up so he will be able to play the year end concert at school. I think even if he just sits at the drums and doesn't play at the concert, it would make him feel a little better. But his drums are his music, and he even plays at church to give his praise to the LORD. He wants to be back to it soon.

Dear Lord, I just lift this young man up to You. You know what has happened and all that has taken place. Lord, I know that You can heal this problem and just make him well. Just touch this mother and give her comfort through out this whole ordeal. Also Lord I just ask that YOu will give the son comfort. In Your precious name I pray, AMen

He will be in my thoughts and prayers as well as you and the rest of your family. I am so sorry for this! Of course, he's still your baby...he is just 16. I hope it all works out and everything goes well. Sounds like he will be up and around really quickly, though. Let us know how it all works out.
