I think it depends on the situation of course at first knowing that someone will have to say goodbye it is really sad but if ever it will give that person a good future or that the thing that they will do is for their own good i think if you really love the person you should be happy for them am i right?

According to The Phrase Finder (http://www.phrases.org.uk) "goodbye" comes from the old English, "God be with ye." Similar to "fare the well" - farewell.
From that, I would say it means wishing someone well when leaving them temporarily or permanently.

it is ironic in a way. but when you said goodbye, it means you have made a decision, you have think about it before you make the decicion. it means you allow yourself to leave someone for good; either in our behalf or in his/her behalf. but the point is, leaving someone is a 'good'bye because we know why are we making such a decision. so, for me, its always a good in 'good'bye.

well..it depends upon the situation my dear... there are goodbye that is really good and there are also good bye that is really hurt and hard to say rather... when a person that you love will say that it is really the hardest part, but when the person who will say that word which not really that close to you, the felling seems to be natural... so, saying goodbye has to do with the situation, thanks
