i want to learn the language, the culture, the life, the magic of people who practice wicca. i have been a non-practicing catholic for four years now, and i realized i want something, some sort of practice or belief into which i can put my energies. i've been doing some early reading, but the books i found are so limited, or so expensive. and the only books i can find in our school library contain only the histories of witchcraft. i'd like to learn from people who actually practice the craft because i would like to practice it myself. my early interests are in natural magic. the elements, earth, wind, water and fire. but i'd like to learn more about them and other things too.

do you want to learn Wicca, or Witchcraft? they are two different things, and Wicca can be very difficult to get access to as it is an initiatory mystery tradition, with it's own set rituals and rules. it's a bit like trying to get into freemasonry. hehe. Witchcraft is easier to learn, as it's just a craft that can be practiced by absolutely anyone.

If she goes solitary she surely won't have those problems and there are a couple of places online where she can learn the Wicca Traditions. I don't agree it's difficult to get into.

Wicca is an initiatory tradition. you can learn about it easily enough, but without initiation into a coven lineaged back to Gerald Gardner or Alex Sanders, they aren't really Wiccan. that's just how that tradition works. you can beleive what Wiccans beleive in, practice rituals similar to those set down by the traditions, but without initiation you aren't Wiccan. I know Gardnerians who won't even aknowledge an Alexandrian as a Wiccan. seeing as Gerald Gardner started it, if you're not practicing the tradition he set out, you can't really consider it to be the same thing.

well, since you put it that way, i'd like to learn the craft. i learned that a lot of witches out there are solitary practitioners. don't you think that if i really believe in the power that i invoke as i practice the craft is one and the same power as that invoked by real wiccans? i still have much to learn about this. i'm just curious, are you wiccan? thank you for replying to my post.

There is an old saying about learning the craft, "when the student is ready, the teacher will come." It has held true for the wiccans, witches and pagans I know in person (myself included) so I'm a firm believer of it. The arts can be dangerous, only if the student chooses to ignore all the basic guidelines laid down by the ones who have passed before them. Learn the ethics and guidlines of the arts first, hold them as law to yourself, and you will be safe. If you have a good book store or able to purchase from Amazon, check out this author, Scott Cunningham. The greatness of his works lays in the fact that, you'll start off with them, and end up coming back to them in the future. Deceptively simple, yet close to the heart of the arts.

wow. i think that is the best advice i have received so far. i honestly don't think i am that ready at all. maybe that is why i can't seem to fully start out on learning the craft. thank you very much. i think i know now that i first have to condition and prepare myself so i can learn the ethics of witchcraft and live my life by it, before i can learn the craft itself.

You have to read, read, read and decide whether you want to enter Wicca or some other Tradition, Nikki. Only you can decide what's right for you, but initially, I would suggest you read into Wicca, on one of the following two sites, where you can get your introductory lessons free. These are... www.magickaschool.com www.avalonia.co.uk Both of these sites have lots of useful information and will recommend books for you to read. I hope you find them of help. Brightest Blessings.

Lol... I don't think Lisandro can help you much, my friend. You know as well as I do, that if you read well into this and find guidance, there is no real danger to you. Enjoy it.
