Chest Pain

I started having chest pain about 7 years ago, and I was diagnosed with Costochondritis, and was given some medication and was told that I would probably have these heart attack feeling pains the rest of my life. Well, they sort of went a way for a while, and now they are back. The pains are worse than I remember, they are in the breastbone area and sometimes pain goes to my left side, through my back, and up to my teeth. Also, read a little about costochondritis and it said the my breastbone would actually hurt to touch and it doesn't. Does anyone have any suggestions? I did schedule an appointment with a cardiologist, just wanted to know what I should prepare myself for.
