How long it takes for you to say that you already know a certain person?

Its hard for me to do that, sometimes I have a very long time friend that I though I knew well but suddenly he did something that I was totally out of clue. And that really feels frustrating while I was defending him only to find out that he actually done something out his image and his character that I used to know. Maybe somehow in some instances over a period of time he changed and I didn't notice it.
So right now I just keep my mouth shut when talking about him, still I respect him as a friend and even he is not perfectly the same as he was before that doesn't change our friendship. But I lost my confidence in knowing a person deeply. How about you guys?

That happens to me not only once but several times ..well in my case i would say knowing a person or a friend will take alot of time and even though you know him/her quite long time you can never tell or measure the person who you are with.Sometimes there are circumstances that you will encounter unexpectedly shows their true colors even you think you know them by heart.My experience was really devastating and it involves w/ money and you part ways just like that.I still consider that she is still my friend and untill now we have communications but,not to the extreme that i do before.This is a good example of how much you will know who are your friends are...I love them because of what they have done to me words they have said in terms of friendship .Friendship that i thought could be tested by times..Times full of trials but i may say never of condemnation....This is me...

I think i dont have a certain period of time on when will i really get to know a certain person. Because even my husband now and wwere living together in a year, ireally hardly know him, i just dont know why, maybe because there's something inside a man that hides that only open in such situation.
