Make Extra Money

Most money is made in business - online and offline. I've been self-employed in my own business or in sales most of my life, so I know the benefits of owning a business.
Because of the high cost of starting a physically located business, building, fuel costs, equipment costs, and because of less risk, I've decided to concentrate on Internet businesses. An Internet business, with much more earning potential, can be etablished for much less investment.
Do you have your own website to earn extra money? What do you think is the biggest obstacle in establishing an online business? Do you have any suggestions? Do you have any questions about establishing an online business?

My main concern is marketing, but as I have been getting things together I find if you are persistent in learning about what you need and want to do the doors open up and the answers are usually right in front of you. I do have questions about selling ebooks, I recently started reading two books about this.
The Ecode and Infopreneur. Check out my live space www.newdirection5.space.com and give me your opinion.

I have been totally self employed at times and at other times just making extra income from online activities. One thing about working at home from the internet is that you don't have to pay for gas to get to work. I would like to be totally self employed from home again and I am working on doing so. At one time I was making over $5,000 grand a month. Currently it is less than $600 a month.

Hi Keith,
Inernet Marketing is the answer, due to world changes. I think it's not much different than real world marketing and seems to be very misunderstood.
I believe rising costs are going to contribute to the establishment of many more online stores

yup. working from home is truly more beneficial. no need to wake up every morning on routine just to get to work on time, no need to pay for transportation and if you have a car, no need to pay for gas... etch. you just do your business online at the comfort of your own home at the comfort of you own time.
that's great earnings for a month! you are doing great.
as for me, since i just started last january, i am earning only around 200 to 300 US dollars a month for interests. which isn't so bad here in my country... i am from the philippines by the way.

with my exp. I can tell that you will have to work very hard to earn money online. Though the people who are working online say that they do not have to work hard inorder to earn some extra bucks, i can't beleave it. You are required to do a lot of research before you can earn any thing.

Hi hometyme. My opinion is what I've experienced for myself. I DO have my own website. In fact I have two. I earn a moderate income from it. The most important thing is that I'm doing what I love, which is to write and help others who want to write.
The largest obstacle was, as you say, in the beginning. With little finances and trying to find online ways to make money it was difficult.
It takes tenacity and determination. It takes having a goal and not deviating from it. In the process, many times, that goal is directed in another direction, but it's usually for the best.

That is a good idea. In fact I am also working towards that end. But one should admit that there are a lot of road blocks. It is not easy. It demands certain things. For example, a lot of time, effort, patience, dedication and above all right strategies.
But it can be done. In fact, world is changing and is changing fast. Traditional jobs will also be there, but we will find mushrooming of a large number of non-traditional ones. I call these New Economy jobs. One big feature of these jobs will be that these will allow people to work from any where in the world. That is fantastic.
I will give you a simple example. If you are not already there, then you can look at mturk.com and see for yourself how there will be home based work opportunities. Of course, one has to be careful with rewards. Mturk tasks are more suitable for workers in developing countries like India.
My best suggestion will be to concentrate on a few things to start with. Internet is such a vast place that one can easily become lost. One has to be focussed. I must stress that journey is tough but winnable.

I have a website that I have been running for about a year and a half. I think the most difficult thing is marketing and finding the customers. My site is a bit different where I sell physical products - mostly furniture.
There is a lot of information a out there, but don't get bogged down with information overload. Seek good advice and follow it. It is not as easy as most make it seem. They are usually trying to push their products(information) and will usually paint a rosy picture to entice people to buy.
It can definately be done with hard work and perserverance. I would recommend automating the process as much as possible so that you are not swamped with repetitive, meaningless tasks. Also, setting up a newsletter and a blog can be helpful for keeping in touch with customers, building a relationship with them, and getting repeat business and referrals.
Good Luck! Let me know if you come across anything that looks helpful.
Do you know who Dan Kennedy is?

Good post, gadad2
I get email from Dan Kennedy, and many other top Internet marketers - especially information marketers. Having watched them for years, I know, at least, some of their marketing techniques.
I hope this forum can be a central point with help for others.

That kind of forum is my goal. I believe all marketing must be viral marketing.
I've seen volumes of products that I would not buy, and I have bought some that were disappointing. Many of them have been sold by hype instead of help.
You can get tips from people like Dan Kennedy, Derek Gehl, Rosaland Gardner, Shawn Casey, Mike Filsaime, (I can name many more) by reading their (sales letters), but the quickest way is to try to find a good book and read it. Settle on one at a time to avoid informtion overload.
I think no one knows it all but there are those who are successful that are real good sales people. They can make it sound as if they have all the answers. You may or may not be able to follow them exactly but you can use thier example to develop your own marketing plan. You can get some direction from them and save a lot of time.

I am still new and trying to find my way around here. I am not sure what to expect, but it looks like it can be promising. It would be nice if it can be a forum that can be helpful and valuable to everyone. Best of luck.

I have my own website www.theenchantedhollow.com. I would say my biggest obstacle was getting our name and products out there. Once I was able to get my product in the hands of consumers I had repeat sales. It was getting there that was the hardest part. My suggestion would be to go into it with a desire to suceed, time everyday to devote to it, and the frame of mind that it's an investment for the future. I worked part time for USPS for four years to support my business. In December of 2006 I was able to walk off the job for the very last time. I've been happily self employed since.
