I know that, you know that, but then how come my mom and dad talk about them like they're real people?
At lunch today, they started talking about some wife who's keeping some secret from her husband, and I got interested, ooh, gossip, and started intently listening. Then after a while, I was like this story is just too juicy and then I figured out that they're talking about their soap opera, but if you were there, you wouldn't be able to tell, it's almost like exactly like they're talking about their friends or something. So, I was like, "you guys, I thought you were talking about real people" and then they started to laugh.
Of course, it is kind of cute the way they were so into it. I mean I wouldn't be one to judge them, since I'm also into things that I'm really into, and I wouldn't want anyone to judge me for that.
But have you noticed this, that people who watch soap operas actually talk about the characters like they know them? If you haven't then you should probably listen in on a conversation of two soapies, trust me, you would be interested.

Yeah...soap operas...I guess where they are based on real events sometimes cannot unstand that they are not actually real.
I know someone who saw an actor from a soap they used to watch, and the hit them because they were being nasty to thier "screen wife"!!!

Yeah, I could see the funny side, but it does make you wonder how many shows people think are real...

Soaps are dramas and anything dramatized only attempts mimmick the real world-they portray satires about real life situations-believe you me, there are real people out there that the writers of soaps attempt expose. So dont limit your annalysis to those doing the acting, try fish out their message!

Well, of course, I totally believe that art imitates life, and most stuff is inspired by real life. I hope my discussion didn't seem like an attack on soap operas because it isn't. I was merely asking if you know any soap junkies or if you are one. I'm no limiting anything. You should probably read some of my other discussions before making that judgment..

it all depends on the soap you're talking about. There are soaps that are real dumb and talking about them ain't worth at all.But most of them are really good that actually gets you into it.One of them would be the prison break series. In fact, I find it more interesting than movies.
I even talk about prison break to my sister when it was being aired cuz my sister loves it but unfortunately doesn't have the time for it.Besides there's nothing wrong in taking about it.Its better than just sitting mum and being idle.

Well, I also feel the same way whenever I hear people talking about soap operas as if they were real. I think it's like talking about one's favorite series that one follows closely per episode. Sometimes, television characters become household names because they tend to make us forget about the harsh realities for a while, and sometimes tend to make our life exciting with the expectation of what's going to happen next to their lives. It's just like gossiping but safer because it's just a TV show. Nobody really gets hurt. This is how I see it. Happy myLotting!

That's too funny! I guess it's like when I watch something like Flavor of Love or Real World or Road Rules. Or, it's when like my sister-in-laws watch the OC or Gillmore Girls. They become like real people when you talk about them. And for the reality show, everybody talks as if they personally know those people. It's like they become part of your lives, even if it's all made up. And, hey, it's better than gossipping about people you really know!
