My computer keeps telling me that it's low on virtual memory and is creating more so things may not load properly during this process. What does it mean? Sorry, I'm computer stupid. Is there something I can do to take care of this?

virtual memory is the extension of your computers physical memory. In order to be able to run multiple programs at once, the computer looks for areas of RAM that have not been used recently and copy them on to the hard disk in to so called page files. This free up space in the ram to load the new application. The hard drive is much slower than the actual memory chips. When u have enough ram the operating system has to constantly swap in formation. while try to do that system take time to do . it will affect the timing of the program.we can repair it by checking how much your actual ram is and how much space left on your harddrive

when you saw that message the first thing to do is make sure your computer is configured to allow windows to automatically manage the virtual memory, second is to eliminate non-essential programs, third is to add ram to your system. when all of your computer's real physical memory (RAM) is in use, windows will try to create virtual memory by grabbing a chunk of hard drive space and treating it like real memory. Your software cant tell the difference betwen real and virtual memory, but you might because virtual memory access is much slower due to the hard drive activity it requires. If you encounter the low virtual memory error message, then you have to used the maximum amount of real plus virtual memory that is supported on your system. SOmetimes programs that crash or one that are poorly designed will not return their working memory space to the operating system when they're using it. .. til here! God bless!

i used to get that a lot but i changed my settings to have more virtual memory. your computer should only draw on virtual memory if you don't have enough ram. buy some more ram and your computer won't slow down all the time because you ran out of ram. virtual memory is much slower than ram because it is mechanical (hard drive). with ram, there aren't moving parts.

virtual memory is a little space that taken from your harddisk, the function is to help your system keep stabile when your main memory is not enough to carry the system file. best solution is buy a new main memory, up the space of the vm is not a good solutions, cause your system still be slow.

the best way for increasing was buying more ram for your computer, or you can increase your minimum paging 2.5 times from your physical memory and the maximum is 3 times of your physical memory. you only need used paging memory if your physical memory is not enough for your daily task
