Do you lock your car doors while you are driving around?
I wonder what is best and/or safest.
I usually don't lock my doors for a few reasons. 1. I usually forget. 2. I wonder if it is better not too in case of an emergency. Let's say you needed to get out of the car really quickly. Or maybe for some reason something happens and you can't open the door yourself and you need someone to help get you out? In that case, it would be better to have unlocked doors.
what do you think?

No I never lock my car doors. A few years ago I was one of the first on scene at a road accident where a car had been hit and was on its side. The driver was trapped and there was a real danger of fire or explosion. He had locked his car door and there was no way anyone could get it open to pull him clear. Another motorist, fortunately, had a hammer in his car and we were able to break the window and open the door to get the guy out. I will never ever lock my doors when I am driving.

I am used to lock the door whenever I am a passenger while I never lock it when I am the driver. The doors where nobody is sitting are always locked. Note that the cars in my family are quite old and don't have centralized or automatic locking.
The reason of this behaviour is my father and my mother have always done the same way, and I learnt from them.
Locking the doors, other than preventing robbery, may also prevent accidental openings (it's especially a psychological reason): I think that's why as a driver I don't lock the door, I am already safe with my hands on the steering wheel, I don't need the additional protection given by the lock.

I don't drive, but as a passenger, I always lock my door. First, it's a habit instilled by many years of hearing, "Please lock your door, Alex." Second, when I was six and I was riding in a car driven by someone else, the door wasn't locked and possibly not even closed right, and it opened when the car was moving at around 40 MPH and I nearly fell out of my seat and onto the street. Not much fun, that. Third, what about carjackings?

I dont lock my doors intentionally, but in my van, the doors lock automtically when I put it in gear. In my truck I only lock the doors when I'm leaveing it unattended. If you had kids with you locking the doors would be a good idea, you never know what might happen or who might need a car to carjack. As far as not being able to get out, I've never owned a car that I couldnt open the door when the door is locked. Take care!!

I always lock the door for safety as I drive. Before, I just drive and do not lock the door, but when I got married and me and my wife had a son, I started to lock the doors of the car as I drive. You know children always touch something with their hands. So for safety reasons, I lock the door. It seems that it has become a habit already. Even when my child is not on board, I lock the door while driving around.

We must close the doors of the car because it's the safest thing to do.I locked but the window is open in case something happens.

I don't lock my doors in my car unless I'm driving thru someplace that doesn't look safe. If you have a wreck, it would be easier for someone to get to you if you don't have the doors locked. But if I go thru a questionable part of any of the nearby cities, the doors get locked. I usually have a can of pepper spray in my purse, and at times, we have a handgun in the car.

ahmm... in our country i think it's best if you lock your car.. Hahaha, else, you risk that someone might open your car door, for a variety of reason, just as a prank, one to rob you, they get inside your car and ask for you money, cellphone and jewelries, or worse yet carnap your car, stuff like that, so here it's always a locked car policy.

In my car, the door automatically lock when the car is turned on, so i never have to remember to lock the doors. i think that is a wondeful feature. It is just safer to have your doors locked. Even in a safe, small town things can happen. In my town, it is highly unlikely that anythign will happen. However, in a lot of the places i go, it is likely that something could happen.

I tend to always lock my car doors if I am alone in the car, you hear so many stories these days of people carrying out "car-jackings" or opening the door and grabbing your handbags that I'd rather be safe than sorry. I tend to put my handbag on the floor of the passenger seat out of view but in case I'm stuck at lights and some chancer just tried to open the door and grab the bag. I feel there's more chance of someone something like that than me having an accident (but never say never) and after females I know having been attacked whilst driving their cars alone or having their bags snatched, I prefer to be on the safe side. I tend not to bother locking the doors if I have a passenger with me.
Interesting enough I was using my dad's car for a few days recently which is a brand new car and basically when you get in the car, the doors centrally lock themslves within 30 seconds or so of all doors being closed which I found a bit spooky initially, then I noticed there were actually no locks inside the car to open and shut LOL! Must be new technology huh? Not sure what would happen in the case of an emergency with this type of auto-central-locking?

Yes, i lock the doors of my car right after the scary incident that had happened to me and my family before. We were travelling out of town using our car, when we were in the middle of the road near the rice field,my sister felt like vomiting... we stopped and she went out then all of a sudden 2 guys appeared and robbed us. We were so scared. After that, we are so alert in locking the door of our car at all times.

I work at night and most of the time I,m driving home well after midnight, when i first start heading home i dont have my doors locked but by the time i pull up at the traffic lights near the Pub/Hotel, i quickly remember to lock them especially near the end of the week as there are always a few intoxicated people staggering down the road.

I usually lock my doors for fear that someone might come in the car whenever there is traffic. That usually happens in our country, bad people want to get in your car when the traffic light goes red so that you will have no where to go. It is very dangerous nowadays, we have to be always on the look-out.
