My boss has a Dell Inspiron 4150 laptop that is very slow. Here are the specs on it: Intel Pentium 4-M CPU 1.70 GHz, 1.19 GHz with 256MB of RAM. I'm considering adding more RAM. It can hold up to 1024MB. The computer is 4 1/2 years old. Would it be feasible to upgrade the memory to make it run faster, or should I just suggest to my boss that we purchase a new and faster computer.

If you have windows XP installed on your computer, then you're in the minimums requirements for the memory. Also if you let open more than one application at a time, then you're in trouble to do simple task on your computer. Upgrading the memory (if it's possible) will do much good to the speed of your computer. To do office work, like using excel, word, outlook and browsing the web, you don't need a CPU much faster. But more memory it's a must.

Yes, we have Windows XP Pro installed on all our computers. It seems to just be slow during the bootup. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the Desktop Manager for his Blackberry cell. He only uses email (MS Outlook) and he does a lot of slide presentations, but those are not stored on his computer. He prefers CD's because a lot of the places where he gives the presentations already has everything set up. But he does have tons of email. I grouped his mails that he keeps by alphabet, and the A-C folder is over 1GB, just by itself. Maybe I should be posting a notice of how to save all these emails to disk. I've backed them up, but don't remember how to retreive them. I did it on my computer, but I'd have to go back and refresh my memory. Not one of those things I do every day. Thanks for your help!

Unless you use only MS OFFICE Upgrade the system ! !! The system that you use is completely outdated, unless you use only MS OFFICE. If he's not an MS OFFICE only guy I suggest going for dual core with 1gb of dual channel and a decent graphics card now that they are very cheap. If you need the system config for a good system send me a message and i'l send you the configs with approx. prices.
