Obscene Phone Calls

I have just received two very vulgar phone calls and of course they were both from a private caller. Have you ever received obscene phone calls? How do you handle it or how would you handle it. I don't have caller ID or callback. If I did, I would call their number back and hope that a woman or wife answered the phone. How about you?

Here in the US we have star 69. not sure if you are in the US or not. but if you are and you want to call someone back hit star 69 and then you can call them back. If it was me i would just hang up and not say anything if it continues report if to the authorities. and the telephone company.

I dialed star 69, but it just said private caller. I didn't know what else to do. If it happens again, I'll do something. Thanks for the advice.

You can always call your phone company or operator and let them know, they can trace the call and let you know where it is coming from, even if it is private. I have done that because this guy kept calling all night with a private number and I had enough. His number was traced back and they released his number to me and I called him and told him if it happened again I was turning it into the police. Sure enough he did it again and the police were called and he then never called again.
You can also have a system put on your phone that will not allow anyone with a private number to call you and if they try, they will hear "Soory this number doesn't except private blocked calls."
I would look into it more because these prank calls are annoying.

They certainly are annoying and a little unsettling in this day. You never know when some lunatic might decide to take it to the next level. My husband said we are going to do something to stop it if it continues. Thanks for your information.

That's what I was thinking. I really think you should try this.

I have gotten phone calls like that. They are so aggravating. I have a couple of whistles for when we are out on the boat....they can be heard for up to a couple of miles. Before I got caller ID, I would blow that whistle as hard as I could into the phone. It was very effective. I think any loud noise maker of some kind would be a big help to you. Also, caller id is a very good thing to have. I would definitely recommend it.

I'll have to maybe invest in something really loud too. I haven't gotten any more today. I hope they got the message that I was not in the mood to hear that mess.

I used to get obscene phone calls also in the past. They were from a private caller also. I called the phone company and got my phone number changed and unlisted. I also got caller ID added to my phone. I can press *69 and dial the number right back now if I ever receive those phone calls again in the future. I would definitely call the number back if I could and I would also report it to the authorities.

Aren't they just ridiculous! People have no life if that's the most exciting thing they can find to do. I'll take your advice.

I've never personally gotten obscene phone calls but years ago my Mom did. They always came when my father was at work and they really 'freaked' my mom out. My dad hooked up a tape recorder to the phone and the next time they called my mom taped what the guy said. When dad got home he listened to it and recognized the voice - it was a man that worked with my dad who eventually was fired after my dad played the tape for their boss.

How terrible. Your poor mom. It can really freak you out when you hear the things they say to you. I'm glad your dad fixed the problem.
