For many parents, the luxury of deciding to stay home or go to work is not an option. Now, more than ever, parents are returning to work sooner than ever. Most parents send their children to school without a second thought. Most parents went to traditional schooling themselves. One of the major benefits and reasoning for traditional schooling is that children are around other children. Early socialization is a key factor in children’s development. Children need to be around other children to learn how to work with others. They need to learn how to communicate their feelings and learn how to compromise and follow directions. Parents also want to ensure that their children are learning behavioral skills and are adjusting to the world with ease and confidence. Bottom line, I think that most people opt to send their children to a traditional school because it is just that, it is traditional. They know that it works and that their child will be given the same opportunities as all of the other children. Why home school: Some parents feel that they would like to keep their children at home for their education. Some may feel that traditional school options are unfit or do not meet the parent’s expectations. Parents often feel that teaching their children themselves is a way for them to connect with their children. They feel that it makes them closer and helps them create a bond. Having the parents as the teachers, they have more control about what their children learn and how they learn best. In traditional schooling children are usually confined to one way of learning. It is hard for a teacher to adapt to all the students’ varying needs and abilities. Parents are more able to cater to their children and know how they learn best. Every child has their own unique style of learning. Parents are able to work at their child’s pace and advance them beyond the limits of traditional schooling. When choosing an educational environment that is best for your child, think about your personal circumstances and how your child would learn best.

Am I understanding you correctly that you would rather improve the school system?

Shineison,
thank you for your input. Do you think the social aspects of traditional school outweights the educational performance of home schooling?
