Though if you walked into an 'office supplies shop' and walked out with a pen, despite how small it is, wouldn't it still be stealing? ;)

Hmm i think this is communcation problem yea .of coz you wont ask your boss"Can i take a few pens or paper back home to do odd jobs at home like writing a personal letter for you etc " .actually if you generate more money than the company hired you , the boss wont brag about you taking small things from company whereas i think he will say Maximise your potential by using everything in the office well .Working is just not work only , it also concerns family because it might affect your working performance . My theory What is Good when there is no bad . What is Right when there is no wrong. My conclusion I think to using stealing is the apporiate word when the boss dont know you are taking the stuff .but is it right or wrong appears to be depend on what you think yea .

I'll get a bonus one way or the other; shame I'm stealing from myself.

Stealing is stealing....no matter what the item is. If it's not yours, don't keep it.

It's the same. It shows you don't have personal integrity.
