How do you make popular discussions?

Hi! I am still kind of nwe to MyLot, but I always see so many discussions with pages and pages of people replying. But whenever I start a discussion, I only get a few replies, if I am lucky! So I am asking all your MyLot veterans for tips on making popular discussions. Should I make more friends? Should I ask better questions? Please give me some help! Thanks.

I would really love to reply to tons of discussions, but I don't like replynig if I don't have something really interesting to say, you know? I don't really like making one-line replies, and I don't always have the inspiration to write that much! :( I guess that's my biggest problem, haha. Thanks for replying though! I really appreciate it!

What I normally do is search for discussions in my interest section and I make friends that are active.

Yeah I usually search for discussions in my interests. I'm not very good at friending everyone though because I have always been picky with addnig friends, even on myspace and stuff. :P Am I just weird? Hahaha!

Try to make more friends in the interest that you have selected. I have a few friends that will comment on about every discussion that I post. Also if you want to start a discussion on something look it up first to see if someone else has already done it. Most likely you will not get many responses if someone else has already done the same discussion before. Good Luck!!!

Have you browsed the popular discussions? Take note of what they are about...usually current events, popular things in the media. I do agree that it can be a bit of a popularity contest sometimes too so I'm in the same boat..start posting away!

That's an interesting idea. I do browse popular discussions, but usually just to see what would be fun to reply to. I've never tried to base my own topics off of those. Thanks!

Try to look at in top discussion, and you try to make a lot of response to other discussion. Interesting topic can make people want to response, don't make a difficult topic. Good luck

I've had the same thing. What I've started to notice is that the discussions with pages and pages of replies are not from new members to Mylot. I'm wondering how many posts you need to have before you aren't considered new anymore. I also wonder what it takes to get that star above your name. How many posts do you need before people take you seriously and think you're here to stay.

The star is your rating. You will receive it once you hit 100. That tells you what other people think about the quality of stuff you write. The higher the number means people really like what you have to say and the topics you choose to write about. You are half way there! Keep up the good work.

Does the star rating make a big impact on the amount of people that reply to your topics? What I mean is... if you saw someone with a high star rating have a topic, then someone with no star have a topic, would you be more inclined to reply to the one with the higher rating?
