I do two types of reading - one for leisure, and one for self-improvement. For me, life is a process of learning new lessons and becoming a better person, and reading plays a very big role for me here. I mainly read psychological self-help books, and mildly spiritual books.
Reading has helped me improve a lot, and in many ways. As a child, reading Russian folktakes helped me improve my english, and now, it helps me stay in touch with the latest developments in the world, and simultaneously helps me explore the world inside me.

Through reading I learn. Take for example the book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, I learned simple investment that may help me be free from financial worries in the future. I learned about mutual funds and passive income. I like reading Newsweek as well (my mother subscribes) and I learned why the Shiite muslims and Sunis are fighting each other, I also learned about resveratrol as being a possible fountain of youth. For the most part I like reading fiction like Little Prince, The Alchemist and Memoirs of a Geisha. The most advantage you get from reading is that you make your brain active....reading is an exercise for the brain. Often you can pick up the most trivial things by reading various media like books and magazines and you'll never know when that trivia will become useful.

Reading is important for many reasons, but I never thought about my own reading in terms of its benefits. I've read since before I started school, because I love it, and because it's always exciting to learn something new. I don't need teachers or college courses because if I want to learn a new subject, I can learn it on my own, thanks to books.

I read because I enjoy it. Not only am I learning, I find it very relaxing. I imagine myself being part of the story, I get involved and lost it in, and it actually takes my mind away from whats happening around me.
