Has your therapist ever told you that you are ready to handle the world?

I saw my therapist today. I have been seeing him in some serious one on one counseling since early October 2006. I have been making progress towards becoming more emotionally healthy and less depressed. I have noticed the changes in myself and I am even rather excited by them. I believe that it has been a combination of my therapist and all the writing that I have been doing in mylot for the past few months that have helped me to see the world in a less depressed way. It's a little scary but my therapist thinks that we may not need to meet anymore. He wants me to think about where I want to go from here, this point in my life. Wow, do I ever have some thinking to do!

Well, first of all, I want to say, good for you. Unfortuenetelly I have not seen my therapist is 2 months, but I really need to. I have gotten a lot better though, going from requireing 1 week visits to just once a month. I haven't really been keeping my appointments lately, although it will really upset my therapist. I recommend to anyone with any sort of problem to consult a therapist to help them cope with their problems. Tell me, is it a good feeling to feel as though you are a normal person once and for all?

You know, I hadn't even thought of that. I've never felt normal before so I never thought of it. OMG, Wow! I can't believe it, I just never thought of that, normal, huh! What a thought. I am going to have to think about this. It's a mind boggling thought. Thank you.

Well thats great! My therapist told me that we didn't have to meet as often but I wasn't supposed to stop seeing him... (I lived in another town so it was harder to go see him)

That's really great! I'm glad to hear you're doing so well? It sounds like the counseling has worked for you and helped. I'm sure whatever path you choose will be a good one and a good one for you. You sound so positive and happy, I have no doubt you will be a success in whatever you do. :)

Isn't it scary to think of flying without the safety net of your therapist? I have been there several times and I must say Congratulations! Your therapist must think you have developed some good coping skilss and that you are now well enough to go on your own. But, know that he is only a phone call away and do not get frightened. The world is yours to explore. Enjoy!

Do you think you are ready? Have you gained the tools needed to look at the world in a different light? If you have and are ready I say go for it, but I wouldn't totally stop nor recommend stopping therapy cold. I would at least have a therapy session once a week or once bi-weekly. Just to make sure everything is going well and to express things that might make you look in a negative light again. The worst therapist I ever had was when I was 14 years old, just lost a friend that was the same age as I to a car accident and I couldn't deal with and went into a major depression. Only after seeing him for two sessions he told me "get over it". I hope that you or anyone else in this world never have to deal with that type of therapist. I wish all the luck with you decision and always remember everybody has a bad day, week, or month. All you have to do is remember that you have friends that care and have ears that will listen. So take a deep breath. :)
