from friends to lovers?

I had this friend i'd known for quite sometime. we really got along well and i loved his company. but the time came that i have to leave for another school. in the short time that we spent together as classmates, i really fell for him. it came to the point that i wonder what he's doing from time to time and every night, he's the last thought in my mind. i really don't wanna leave him but i have to. the least i can do is tell him the truth about how i feel for him. if he feels the same way, then good. but if not, our friendship is definitely ruined. if you were me, what would you do?
