The other day I took my dad in to Wal-mart to get him a senior lifetime fishing licences and the guy there said they are about to make it a law to make it mandatory for the elderly to have to take driving test after a certain age. They say because the elderly are causing accidents. I think it night be a good idea. The next day when my husband and I were going down the road a very eldderly lady started moving over nto our lane without a signal or even looking. She almost hit us. My hisband blew the horn but she didn't even notice it. She never showed any signs that she knew she almost hit us. This has happened lots of times with us. What do you think? Should they have to take drivers test?

Yes I think it is a good idea , I am 65 I am still very sharp at my driving and quick reflexes but I have discussed this with my family , I have told them if they ever see me getting dangerous or slow in anyway ( even if I have noticed it ) then I think they should tell me ) I don't think it is fair to put anyone in danger , You see accidents every day with people being either too slow or too smart xx

I think that the elderly is really 75 and up. But it is very nice that you are aware and have been kind enough to tell your family to be aware and let you know! I already see my dad getting where he has more close calls then he use to (he's 75) but I'm not sure if it's just carelessness or if he is slow at responding.

I think their vision should be checked first and if the vision is questionnable then a driving test should be administered. Some elderly people are sharp as a tack so I think it depends on who it is. For some elderly people taking away their driver's license is like taking away their independence.

Well I think if they have to take a driving test and they are sharp then they will be able to get their licence. If they fail the driving test then I guess they shouldn't be on the road driving. I know it means alot to the elderly to have their independence (I have elderly parents) and would like for them to keep it but not at the expence of their lives or others.
