hi again axoloti....when i kept neons i used to add a capful of blackwater extract to the water as neons like the water quite acidic..if you can't get blackwater extract try and get a piece of bogwood..most pet stores should stock it...

hi again pal...TIGER BARBS...EEEEKKKK!!! they're nippy little sods..most tetras go together...corydoras catfish are the most placid fish you'll ever get..rams(dwarf cichlids)dwarf gouramis, hong kong plecos, coolie loaches, female siamese fighters, zebra danios, the only barbs i would recommend are cherry barbs,if you have the right conditions for tetras...avoid guppy's,swordtails, mollies and platies as they prefer alkaline water andusually need salt. as for marine fish ...i wouldn't like to advise you on them as my boss had to get rid of them as i was allergic to the high quantities of salt and if i had to go in the marine tanks at all i'd come out scarlet to my elbows, and at the time they were catching them in the wild with cyanide and they were dying within days of arriving. once again do not hesitate to contact me any time. take care friend shona.

A heater is a great idea. Tropical fish like to be at 74-78* and goldfish like to be between 68-72*. Also Do you put dechlorinator in your water? It nutrelizes the chlorine. When you get a new fish do you float the bag or just dump them in?? You have to float the bag. Place in the water it should float. Leave there for 20 min. now net out the fish place in tank and get rid of the water in the bag. Dont put it in your tank. Its not the same as you water. Only feed them once everyother day only what they will eat in 5 min. To much food dosent get eaten and causes the tank to be dirty. Do you do water changes?? You have to do a partial water change 2 a month. You buy a chypon to clean the tank. Remove 1/3 of the water. Now get new water the same temp as the tank put in the dechlorinator and put back in the tank. Make sure the temp is the same within a degree. If its off to much it will shock the fish and could cause ick. place thermometer in tank for 2 min to get an acurate temp then get you faucet the same temp. Well I hope I have helped and not confused you. If you have any questions please ask. I used to work in a pet store and know quite a bit about fish care. I took care of 82 tanks!!! Good Luck!

thank you. if I got a new fish, I just don't dump them in, I let them stay on the bag for an hour. maybe it's because of the water temp that's why I keep loosing my fish. I also feed them only once a day. just a question, the temp your saying, is it in Fahrenheit or in Celsius?thanx.Ü

first you need to use water that is either bought at the store or you can buy drops to nuterlize the water. just follow the directions that are on the bottle for that each is different. a heater is a good idea too. you shold relly get one it is better for them. you will need to set it on about 75 depending on what kind of fish you have. you could be over feeding them too. before getting new fish go through and clean the tank really well you could have a fungus that you dont know about on the walls of the tank. also make sure you clean all the equipment and change filter carbon. make sure the aerators are big enough for the tank size you have too.

I am not really a big fish person, but when I had goldfish, when I bought them I left them in the bag they came in and put them bag in the water and let them sit in there until the temperature of the water was the same in bag and in tank. That helped them adjust to the temperature slowly. Then I would release them into the tank. A heater would be a good idea and also, dechlorinating the water with a solution you can buy at your pet store. That helps too. I hope you figure out what the problem is! Keep us posted

When you buy fishes they come in plastic bags. They are now safe in that environment.Do not change it suddenly.Keep the plastic bag with fishes inside the tank water. After one hour slowly open the bag.Let the water inside the tank and the water inside the bag to mix very slowly. Then after a while remove the plastic bag.On feeding them do not give food more than enough

thanx for the advice man. I'm careful now on feeding my fish, I don't overfeed them so that water won't get dirty all of a sudden. I have fun watching them eat. I love fishes. lol!

hi there...why don't you start with goldfish until you learn a wee bit more about what you are doing..they are a lot hardier and much easier to keep than tropical fish and you wouldn't need a heater just yet either. clean tank thorougly before you start again...cooking salt is a great disinfectant NOT table salt..it's toxic to fish...set the tank up and let it run for a few days to take chlorine out and come up to room temp. when you choose your fish..if one fish in the tank looks poorly...don't touch the tank..only select fish from a tank where all the fish are healthy....start off with a couple and see how you get on with them for a couple of weeks..float bag in tank for about 15 minutes for them to acclimatise...do not add water from bag ...feed once a day..as much as they'll eat in about 2 minutes..after a couple of weeks you can start doing partial water changes once a week...i do about 25%.....change about 50% monthly...make sure water is same temp.that you are putting in...keep a special bucket and use it only for fish...nothing else...an oxygenating plant helps as well because goldfish love to eat them...if you need any more advice don't hesitate to contact me...

I don't know a whole lot about fish, but mine are doing alright. I do know that it is verrrry important to wash your hands before & after you feed your fish. They're very sensitive to germs from outside their environment. And they can actually die if their caretaker's hands are dirty when the person is feeding them. Good luck! Also ~ don't overfeed. Sometimes they get too big, too fast ~ and that can kill them too.
