It's now been two weeks since my son's accident and I thought I would give everyone here an update!
For those who missed my previous posts, my 16 month old pulled a pan of hamburger off the stove that I had just started browning. I had the pan handle turned to the back of the stove, but he had gotten tall enough to grab the side of the pan. There was just enough grease to splash out of the pan causing second degree burns to his face. I have felt very guilty about this and had a hard time looking at his burns and scabs over the past 2 weeks.
I am happy to write today that his face has healed with beautiful new pink skin! The scabs have all fallen off and he is looking great! I hope the new skin blends in with his face over time so this whole incident can become a distant memory. Thanks to everyone here who offered such nice words of support!

I'm glad your son's doing fine. My 16-month old son also burned the back of his hand in the iron that I didn't know was still plugged 7 weeks ago. He suffered from second-degree burn but fortunately, it just needed washing twice daily and silver ointment. It healed nicely after three weeks. I know how it feels to live with the guilt. I have always been careful with the iron, along with everything else that could potentially hurt him, but it still happened. These accidents happen and despite our best efforts, our toddlers just seem to get into trouble like it's their ultimate goal in life. Anyway, I put Vitamin E oil in my son's scar in the morning and scar ointment before bedtime. Also, remember to put sunblock on the affected part when necessary. All the best to you.

I'm sorry to hear about your son's accident, but glad to now that it healed nicely. Thanks for the info about the vitamin E oil and the scar ointment. I will start that as well.

I am so sorry for the accident that your son had. I am happy to read that he is doing much better. There will be a number of accidents that your son will have as he grows, you won't be able to prevent them all. Every mom feels guilty about their child being hurt while in their care.

I'm sure this won't be our only accident - I wish it could be, but I know better than that!

Thanks! I'm trying not to beat myself up about this accident anymore. It's just hard to see the marks on his face daily.

I am glad that your baby is going to be ok!
Don't beat yourself up. As much as we try, we can't protect them from everything. The bright side is that he won't want to be near the stove when you cook now.
I know it hurt you as much as it hurt him. I'm glad you'll BOTH be all right now! *HUGS*

I didn't read your earlier posts but I am glad that your son is healing well.Don;t worry, kids skin being so sensitive,it also heals up well, better than adult skin. Please don't feel guilty(Easier said than done though!:))My daughter fell and hit her head agains a corner of the wall and she had a cut which needed 3-4 stitches.I felt terribly guilty but there is nothing that we can do.But now it is more than a month and the scar of her wound in her head has disappeared!I can;t even tell where it was!Your son's skin will heal too and there will be no scars left as he is so young.Goodluck!
