I used to work at a store.Once a month they would throw out good merchandise that just wasn't selling.I am all kinds of stuff.Jewelry (even real gold) was thrown out.It was first marked down then if it did not sell, just tossed in the trash. Most stores do a discard on mechandise that does not sell.Wouldn't it be nice to open a store and let homeless people run it?We could give them all of the stuff that gets thrown out.Or what about restaurants that throw away food constantly. Why not have it collected and distributed to the homeless.Am I wrong or is their something wrong with this country for throwing away something could benefit others. What suggestions do you have?

Well I used to know some people who used to Dumpster dive the Local Kmart dumpster if they could get away with it, and then Sell the New items at their Yard Sale each week and made a ton of $$. I am sure that doing something like this is Illegal now, but with all the landfill problems here in the USA there needs to be a better way of doing this. Not sure what the solution is.

I was at at landfill a couple of weeks ago.I could not believe the stuff people were throwing out. These people could have donated so much stuff.I was going to ask for it but there was a huge sign saying that you couldn't.

I think it would be great to have a "free shop" where ppl could come and get things that are being thrown out or want to get rid of. My foster son worked at a local KFC for awhile and every night at closing they'd let the workers take home all the leftover chicken, biscuits, ect. Alot of ppl wanted to work there just b/c of that LOL.

wow i didn't know they threw jewlery out if i worked there i would have took it all home and gave it out to people...but as far as world hunger that will never end unless the main cause of it is fixed and that is whatever a country grows stays in the country one of the resons behind why we have third world countries and starvation is because the less richer countries have a tendency to sell their crops to more richer countries who offer them really good prices so while we benefit from having cheap groceries and so on and so forth other people in less fortunate countries suffer, now if people in 1st class countries don't mind spending a little more on food and only eating what they grow then there may be a small answer to ending world hunger

The district manager would watch us put it in the dumpster.I only went dumpster diving once. And that was to get U.S. flags out.You have a good point on cheap groceries. But if it wasn't for some of those cheap grocery stores there would be more people in trouble.

I completely agree with you on the stuff stores, and restaurants throw out. They should be giving it to the less fortunate. Where I use to work they wouldn't even let the staff eat the extra food. Instead it went in the garbage!
But I don't think there is a specific answer to world hunger. I think you'd need to have world peace to solve that problem. There is more than enough food to go around, but where the food is is unproportionate to where it's needed. People can't look past their own hate to help those in need.

After 911 our store was stuck with flags, posters and t-shirts.Our main office said to throw them out.Our district manager watched me put them in the dumpster.I begged the main office to please let me give them to the American Legion Hall to our veterans.I got a big flat no.So I went back to the dumpster at night and retrieved them. They were not dirty because I put them in bags. You shoul have seen the vets faces when I walked in and handed them the stuff.I also agree about world peace. But I do not see that coming anytime soon.

You have a wonderful suggestion and if the state gives the support and administer a group of homeless people a big pickup is enough to carryout your thoughts and distribute the food to homeless and sell the other discarded items from stores at throw away price and account this collection. Use this money on medical or education for the homeless. You are a good faithed person and God will always keep you happy, because your thoughts are humble and sincere and likes to see happiness for the needy.

That is a great idea.I wonder how to start something like that.I guess you would have to know someone high up in the government.Even if they set up some flea market tables in some of the areas.Or if they could get some honest people to sell the stuff on Ebay as a whole sale lot. Thanks for the suggestion.
