A Chinese movie about how people suffering during the war time and great culture revolution of China. Fugui endure the fortunes from wealthy landowership to peasantry, addicted to gambling, it also driven his father to grave and the leaving of his wife and daughter. After all, Fugui began to make alive by a real skill, working in a shadow puppet troupe. Just a short time after the reunion of the family, he was enlisted into Kuomingtang forces. When he came back after the communist victory, his life continuously effected by the movement from 50s to 70s in China. The movie is directed by famous chinese direct Yimou Zhang, who will direct the opening ceremony of Olympic game 2008 in Beijing. The movie is casted by Li Gong and You Ge. This movie won several award in 1994 Cannes Films festival, including best actor.
