this just absolutely amazed me.Even before VA Tech, there was a mother trying to pass a bill for anti bullying. It was called the Jefferey Johnston act.It was named after a teen living in Cape coral .He was tormented so bady not only in school but he would come home get harassed on the internet. .He got no peace whatsoever from it and it continued to escillate til he couldn't hack it anymore and he committed suicide. She tried to get a bill passed that would make it easier to protect these kids who are being bullied. She tried last year and it was knocked down and this year, even after Va, tech, the senator whose name I beleive (but not sure) is Johnson refuses to acknoledge it saying that the current laws are enough. He even said in a newspaper report that he was tired of "being bullied" by the mother and her supporters. What a jerk! If the law was adequate, the kids wouldn't be bullied and poor Jeffery would still be alive.I cannot believe how heartless this man is. If you would like to check out the story, you can check the local tv stations winktv or nbc2.

Something does need to be done about the bullying that goes on in school and outside of school but I am not sure a bill will help improve things. I think that our children need to be educated more, both at home by their parents and at school, about the consequences and dangers bullying can have on other people. People are just going crazy now and doing violent things as payback for the way people have treated them. I know that I was bullied when I was younger and picked on and I had thoughts of killing myself as well but did not. It is painful to be bullied and teased, especially as a child. I think being better educated will be more helpful than a bill or law.

Bullying is painful but even more so now.Bullying involves a lot more violence and some of it real bad. A law wouldn t stop it but it would help.i do agree with you that maybe educating would help.Crazy isn't the word my friend!

Come on! We've all been bullied. YOU LEARN TO GET TOUGH...if you don't get tough you get stomped on. Good grief. It's a sad part of life...but laws WILL not keep a person safe from someone's mouthy words. "Government that guy called me a name! And I don't like it. His name calling made me cry." The parents have a responsiblility to teach their children how to survive in the real rough world. It is NOT the responsiblity of the government. PARENTS RAISE YOUR KIDS! PULEEEEZE

Unfortunatley bullying isn't like it used to be.A lot of it nowadays is violent and some of that violence is extreme.A law wouldn't stop it all but it would help. I do agree with you that parents need to be getting after their kids but they don't,a lot of parents will make excuses or refuse to admit their kids would do such a thing. Another problem is teachers. They have a tendency to turn their heads and act like they didn't see it. Maybe they could educate the parents as well as the kids.

I think everyone grew up with "bullies" and I know of very few people that didn't experience being "picked on" when they were young. It is a part of life. HOWEVER! The picking and bullying isn't like it was in the 70's and 80's. It is cruel and hateful! I'm not sure where today's children learned to act this way and treat each other this way! There are so many people out there fighting for anti bully laws that I can't believe this politician said such a thing. (I wonder if he WAS the bully in school). Isn't it obvious that ignoring what's going on at school saying "kids will be kids" is killing our children?

It's so true. I 'm so tired of the kids will be kids. What makes it so bad is that teachers will turn their head and act like they didn't see it and the parents make excuses for them. I know it sounds cliche but i think a lot of the reason why kids are getting out of hand with the violence is they are constantly surrounded by violence with video games,tv,music. There is a slight chance the bill will go through tomorrow. They are starting somthing new with the bills. I don't know exactly what they were talking about but they will try again tomorrow but it's only a slight chance.
