I think because it releases stress and relaxes people a bit. I like this quote...when tears are on the outside, healing is on the inside

I t depends on the type of crying, if it is related to bad stress, then it is not good. If tears of joy, then it cleanses the soul and enlightens the spirit. Laughter wipes away bad stress and makes one light-hearted.

laughter uplifts your spirit and puts your vibes on a positive plain. which brings you more wonderful things and experinces to laugh about. in plain english, it makes you feel good.
i am personally a big crier. i cry often. it just feels good to get rid of the negative, and to grieve if you will. it takes away the negative and allows there to be room for the positive vibes to come on in.

Different people express their feelings in different ways, however one thing is probably common to everyone and that is the need to cry at some points and equally the need to laugh. Laughing serves a purpose because it is relaxing and the reason for that is it helps to release endophines which are the brain's chemicals for a natural high, the more you laugh the more you release and the more relaxed and happy you feel. We cry as a way of expressing the emotions of hurt and loss, I don't really know the scientific basis, other than when we cry there is a feeling of letting go, not hiding ourselves, or our emotions, not buring things in our minds, instead in many respects it is the ultimate emotion because a true cry session means that we don't really hold back, we almost let all of the anquish flow with the tears. It's healthy.

Laughter is a great thing, that's why we've all heard the saying, "Laughter is the best medicine." There is strong evidence that laughter can actually improve health and help fight disease. Maybe that is why there are business made of laughter, like the comedy bar, we go inside and pay just to make us laugh.
Crying cleanses the soul. Crying is natural, healthy tension release, but don't overdo it like Alice in Wonderland, who cried so much she ended up swimming in a pool of her own tears. (joke)
Go ahead cry, it gets your mental poison out.
