And I'm trying to clean the house and make sure everything is just right. My hubby says don't bother cause they don't care what our house looks like only that we spend time with them. Do you clean till your blue in the face when your in-laws come or not?

I clean when my inlaws come, but i clean more when i know my mother is coming! She is always so critical of how i keep my house. it takes a lot of cleaning to make it so that she can't find something wrong with it. my house never gets disgusting, just cluttered. we have 2 kids with one on the way. the kids always are dragging toys all over the house and when my husband comes home he plays with them and makes it worse lol.

i do that too! my mother is so meticulous when it comes to cleanliness. if she finds something that she not in its proper plce, she'd lecture me on things that i am already the woman in the house and that i should be the one to take care of the house, etc...

When my inlaws come i don't bother too much myself, mainly coz their place is always messy & stuff as well. They don't mind much anyway coz they know we have a daughter that makes her fair of the mess & stuff!
On the other hand, hen my own parents are coming, i have to make sure the house is spotless - my Mum's a neat freak & always picks at me anyway - she also goes on & on about how my house has to be clean for the baby.
My house is always clean - just a little untidy sometimes :) There's nothing around my daughter can get to that she shouldn't. It's just hard coz what i would consider clean, is usually a LONG way off my Mum's idea of clean - she'll even come for the day just to re-do everything i've done so it matches her idea of clean.
It's very annoying so i don't like to have them up here very much!!!

That's funny - my husband says the same thing! LOL And his sister and her
hubby are coming tomorrow for the weekend. I do do some cleaning, but just enough to make things presentable. I will dust the common areas, clean the guest bathroom, and clean/dust the guest bedroom. The kitchen usually stays fairly decent, so I don't do much there. I will also vacuum the living areas. I may
also clean the baseboards if they are too dusty.

My inlaws haven't been to visit us yet since we moved out of state, but they are planning to visit, and when they do, you can be sure my house will be spotless. My MIL is very critical of me to begin with, I don't need her saying my house is dirty. It's not, but she would see a cobweb and for her it would be.
I clean my house whenever I get company, it really doesn't matter who it is.

Yes i clean the house when i know that my in-laws are coming. I like them to be proud that even if i have my baby to take care of, i will not leave my house dirty, and i feel that its like showing respect to them because if i just leave it dirty maybe they would think that i dont prepare things when i know they are coming.

I want my house to look presentable when any guest comes over. The key word here is presentable. I don't think it needs to pass the white glove test but it can be embarrassing if the shelves are covered in dust and the hallway floor is filthy, not to mention the kids' stuff everywhere, including mail and newspapers. My husband is a real stickler. He goes on great cleaning binges when he knows someone is coming, especially for a special occasion. He is responsible for the floors but he can go a little crazy washing windows and window sills and baseboards if he knows someone is coming.
I got to tell you though, the last time we went to visit his family, I was appalled at the condition of the bathtubs at his sister's house and his brother's house. We were staying at his brother's house and I actually tried to clean the tub (sister-in-law's father passed away while we were there so she was gone a lot). I filled the tub with water and bleach and it still would not come clean. The hairs stuck to the tub and shower curtain were disgusting - at both houses. I can't imagine leaving it like that. I don't clean my tub very often, maybe once every 2-3 weeks, but I rinse it down before I get out of the shower. I can't imagine letting a bathtub getting like that. Gross!

usually i leave the cleaning till I'm blue till right before Stu's mum gets here haha, the house is never that much of a mess, just lived in, and boy if it were spotless, you'd hear a cute little French lady going off on how a house should be a home, and a home is lived in so sit the he11 down and stop worrying about it.
And that's just when I'm sweeping the floor a day or so into her visit!!!!!!!!!

My wife does that when ever she knows that anyone is coming. I try to tell her the same thing and it doesn't make a difference to her either. But my only suggestion to you is the same one that I give my wife, We live here it is not a museum. It does not have to be perfect and considering that we have kids I don't care how good you are they will make more messes than you can clean and you will just find yourself running in circles and being frustrated

I do clean like crazy when my inlaws come and I'm not sure why cause my mother in law just comes in and starts cleaning my house anyways since thats what she does for a living I guess she thinks that she needs to do my house too.
I usually clean like crazy when I know I'm having company come no matter if its just a friend who lives up the road or if its someone thats coming from out of town!!

oh yes I do! I clean like that when anyone comes to stay. My mother was the same way and I guess I take after her on that. My husband thinks I take it too far! LOL

I sure would be cleaning if it was me. I wouldn't want them to see my house dirty.
