Lily Update - Surgery Postponed til Monday

Lily - So many discussions about Lily - I thought she deserved a photo here!

I wasn't sure whether to just put this within my earlier "surgery" discusion, but so many people have asked me for updates on Lily, that i thought it would be easier for them to find in a new discussion. So as you know - she was due for her amputation this morning. However - the Vet phoned me at work this afternoon, because a new development had occured. Seems when they removed Lily's bandage to examine her this morning, the infection had rapidly improved. They still decided to go ahead with the amputation, but seemingly, while Lily was lying on the operatng table, she moved two of her toes, and they noticed there was some colour returning to them (as opposed to the black, gangrene-colour of the night before) So because of this, they have decided to postpone surgery until Monday, because there is a (very) small chance they may be able to save her leg and just amputate the toes and paw, and they want to wait a little longer. I am not 100% convinced of this decision, and am worried in case a new infection starts to attack her rampantly over the weekend when there aren't too many Surgeons/Vets on duty, but I will abide by their judgement - they are trained experts - I am not. Will keep you posted, and leave you with a photo of my baby taken a few weeks before the accident.

It would be lovely if they didn't have to amputate at all wouldn't it. Though as you said you have to be careful in case a new infection starts up. It would make it easier to get around if they could save her leg. I will keep an eye on here to see how she goes. Thanks for the update.

Certainly puts my problems in perspective, it goes without saying my friend that my thoughts are with you and all I can do is give you a virtual hug, I know what it's like when it comes to animals because they are our family and mean so much to us. She is beautiful my friend and I hope she has a comfortable weekend, and you too xxx

This has to be nerve recking for you...but I'm glad to hear she is showing some improvement.Sounds like you have a really good Vet and I'm sure they would not have opted to wait if they didn't think it was the right thing to do. Hang in there.....your baby will be home again soon.

No - you're right - it wasn't easy, and I ran up huge phone bills checking with the Vets all the time. And if you want to know the latest - there is a new discussion just posted with some slightly more positive news:-))

Amputation is a big op if it can be avoided it will be so much better for Lily i come on here every day to here how Liy is doing its sounds very positive and maybe all our prayers and positive vibes are working i hope so with all my heart. even my daughter asks every day how is Lily today?she is 12 and like me adores cats and hates seeing anything in pain . Every ray of light is good she is a fighter they wouldn't have postponed the op if there was that chance and miracles do happen! Just keep positive thoughts HUGS xx

Oh rosie, I am keeping my fingers close and wish that your Lily will recover well. I also hope that there will be no amputation needed. This is certainly a very good news knowing that Lily is holding up on her own well too. keep us posted.

I've been following your discussions about Lily, glad to hear that the infection is getting better, lets hope a new one doesn't start, I imagine the antibiotics the vet will have given her will stop that. (fingers crossed). I'll be thinking of poor Lily over the weekend and hope she continues to improve more so they don't have to amputate the leg. I know how nerve racking this must be for you and your husband, as I had a similiar experience last year with my Max (the little black cat in my avaitor) he fractured his back by his rear hips. I had no idea how he did but thankfully the vet came and took him to the surgery and fixed him. And he was back with us within two weeks. Best wishes to you all and keep us informed of the progress.

Hopefully Lily will get to keep her leg then, that is good news. I hope the infection continues to get better and they can save her leg with skin grafts as it's surely better for the cat to keep her leg.

hearing some improvement/good signs aren't not bad enough. The doctors are monitoring her condition and and don't worry, though it's weekend they will not let Lily be unattended and for sure any emergencies the doctors will be available. still praying for Lily...

Thanks for the update on Lily. I hope that she doesn't need the amputation after all! I hope that her poor leg can be saved. Maybe the postponement of the surgery is a good sign, so keep the faith! As you said, those vets are trained experts and will not leave anything to chance. In the meantime, you and your Lily have my prayers and best wishes. Huggies to you both--and God bless you!

Praise God!!!! Trust him. That is wonderful news. Our prayers are working. God bless that little kitty. That makes my day. I know she will be ok. You got to think positive, and feel God's love for that cat. Your little kitty is receptive to the power of prayer. I will continue to keep on praying.

I will keep Lily and her mom..you in my prayers that everything will work out...I quickly scanned your other discussions to find out what had happened...I have cats myself..they are my babies too...and I know you must be literally tearing your hair out with worry..but from what you have described now it looks rather encouraging that maybe Lily won't have to have the amputation after all, and seems seems to be a real fighter! Keep us posted--please!

It's really good news that the Vets noticed the reduction in the infection and that she was moving her toes. I'm sure they will keep watch on her all weekend because of what she is going through. Maybe the Vets thought there was a chance the whole time of saving her leg but didn't want to give false hope in case they were wrong or the improvement they thought would happen didn't. I'll keep both of you in mind over the weekend. Everything will work out just fine. :-)
