Zoo - what is your opinion

I am going to the Zoo on Sunday because my brother in law adopted a pig for my sister at Christmas.
I am looking forward to going but only to see the tigers as I think they are just amazing.
Then I got to thinking how Zoos used to have a bad reputation. Lately they have had a lot of good press and publicity because of the animals successfully breading.
Has this changed peoples opinions of Zoos - or do some people still think it is cruel to keep animals like this. What do you think?

Zoo is a good place to take your kids and educate them about the animal kingdom. My only reservation about the zoos in my country is that is is always hot and humid. You need to go there early in the morning and then take a break during noon and if you still have the energy, continue in the evening when the sun is not that hot.

I don't think it's that cruel. If the Zoo keeps the animal in a good environment, with other animals, then it's not cruel. Imagine yourself living in a luxurious house, getting food, water and everything yo want. Might get boring one day, but it's not cruel.
