Recently, astronomers have found an Earth-like planet that may be conducive for life. Some people now begin talking about how to prepare for alien invasion --

When reading this article, I am thinking of our behavior as humans. Why do we always think about violence? Scientists just made a preliminary guess about an Earth-like planet but we already do think far beyond what it is supposed.
As we know, UFO's stuffs have been introduced to the public for more than 50 years. If it was true, those aliens (UFOs) would have visited the Earth for more than 50 years but they have never done harmful ways to humans so far. If they would like to invade us, they had done so long time ago. I do understand that we need to have contingency plans but do you think it is necessary to prepare for something that is not certain yet? So far, UFOs' stuffs are still a controversial subject. If you think that we need to prepare for alien invasion, what should we do? Can we win the battle?

Humans are just stupid. They want to prepare themselves for what they are not sure that'll come, and they are forgeting about the Global Warming, that is so close to us.
Anyway, I do believe there is life outside. OUTSIDE, far away. Not here on our planet. Nothing related to UFO's...
Just a far away planet with life on it.

Yes, global warming is first priority that need to be solved. Eventhough we've found earth-like planet, there are still many uncertainties. Besides, this earth-like planet has a distance of 20 million speed light. Humans are still not able to create ships that can move in the speed of light. Although we can develop such ships, will we be able to handle the speed of light? Have you tried to ride a roller coster?

No, never tried to ride a Roller Coaster. But I will some weeks later.
Humans should stop thinking about this other kind of stuff. We should focus only on solving this Global Warming problem. We should have avoided it, but now it's out of control. We need a way to solve this problem, allowing the man to still use cars, eletricity, and all this kind of stuff.

Personally I'm just excited to know that there's another planet out there that possible could have life on it. It quite probably just is bacteria though, I'm afraid aliens and UFOs are probably science fiction stories only. If aliens do exist, then I don't think we should worry about any alien invasion. As far as I can see they have superior technology to us and might have already walked amongst us for centuries. Sightings of UFOs go back for years and years - if they didn't invade us then why start now? We wouldn't be able to win any battle anyway, it wouldn't be any use. We're slowly killing our planet and the beautiful flora and fauna it has, perhaps aliens would do a better job at preserving everything.

Exactly. Why do they need to invade us? Perhaps, our Earth is slightly different from theirs?

I have always believed that there must be some other planets out there with life on them.
I don't believe in little green men. I believe that the life form on other planets will be similar to ours as the whole universe is made of the same elements. The only changes would occur because the climat is different to ours... but the change in the climat would have to be mild in order to sustain life. Even on Earth we have different races and different animal species under different climats.
Could there be a more advanced civilisation out there? Most definitely.
The Earth has suffered several set back.
Life was almost wiped out of it 250 million years ago. Then again... 65 million years ago.
Man think of himself as super intelligent... but he is anything but intelligent.
Just think of this...
From the first appearance of man... it took him 40 million years to establish the first civilisation.
From then... it took 5000 years for the industrial revolution to take place.
And all the technology we have today only started 100 years ago. And while developing that technology... we managed to destroy our environment by polluting it.
Furthermore... religion has prevented us from being ourselve for the past 2000 years. Religion has created wars and side tracked us in building a military machine rather than putting our efforts towards science. Religion has a lot to answer for when it comes to progress.
It is only in the last 100 years that it has become acceptable to question religion. And it is for this reason that we have surged ahead with our technology.
On the other hand... if you look at Islam... where it is still forbidden to question religion... their countries have seen very little development... and whatever technology they use... comes from the West.
So yes... it is very much possible for another civilisation to be far superior to ours in technology. But will they invade us?... Doubtfull.
Will they visit us?... Most probably... They would be just as curious about us as we are about them.
Because of the long distances... even if they could travel at near the speed of light... it would still take them 25 years to get here from Gliese 581. And then 25 years to get back.
One would assume that they would need several spaceships to invade Earth. And while it might be easy for them to destroy our cities... tracking down 6 billion people could be a little more difficult. They would not have the resources to have a guerilla warfare against 6 billion people. They would lose.
Furthermore... why invade Earth? If there are two planets with life on them... they must be more... so why pick Earth?
But the biggest reason for not invading Earth... is that it serves no purpose. No matter how advance a civilisation is... it would still be an impossible nightmare to move 5 billion people from Gliese to Earth. Can you imagine how many spaceship you would need to move that many people? Even to move 5000 people at a time... you would need a pretty big ship. And don't forget that they need to live on it for 25 years.

Good point, Aussies 2007. I am just thinking of aliens. If they need to get 25 years from here to Gliese 581, and then 25 yers to get back, how long is the life spans of those aliens? It is very amazing!

If we were ever invaded we would have no chance in hell. Better to join them and do whatever they say.

One thing for sure, if they invade us, they will regret it definitely. Think we will have left alot of SH*T for them to help us clean up! El-Nino, Green House Effects, Nuclear waste etc. Think the aliens will regard us like crocoaches, living in a filthy and dirty environment that we cann earth, so sad!
