What do you do most with polymer clay?

Coral and Silver Swirls - I made all of this - the beads and all the wire work. This is a real favorite of mine, and was an attention-getter at my jewelry class demo.

I've been working with polymer clay for about 3 years now and what I seem to be able to do best is fauxs - jade, aventurine. I am quite cane-challenged and really have no desire to sculpt in it. Being good with fauxs works great for making beads for my jewelry. At least I am good at something!

Uippppeeeeee another clay person! I have not tried to make any beads. For Christmas last year I made snowmen with different types of hats. My favorite one was an Ohio state snow man. I like to make little animals. I make pins for my boys teachers. I need to come up with a new idea because it is teacher appreciation week. I was thinking of making a ruler and putting teachers rule on it. Beads are really expensive I think you got the right idea!

Wow, that sounds soo cool! I couldn't even imagine trying to make sculptures in pc. About the best I can manage is using pc molds for focal pieces for jewelry. I made a really nice one out of the aventurine - now I have to get going on the rest of the necklace!

Sorry - forgot about this link: www.polymerclaycentral.com They have a forum/message board on this site (1st button on the left). They have been really helpful to me in ALL things Polymer Clay - and they are soooo very nice as well. You should really check it out! Hope to see you there! They have something called the "Moster Poster" - In April I scored #2 moster poster! Yeah, I spend some time there!!!

I, like you, make the jewelry but I have started using the wire with the beads and that is fun. I like to make the canes and if they are not to my liking, reducing and making a quilt pattern that is fun to make pins to wear and give to my quilting friends. The last thing I made, I took all the canes that were the same size(about an inch) slices about 3 slices of each, put a hole close to the top and baked. Sanded, applied floor wax, then attached a 2-3" piece of 24 gauge wire to each, curling one part back on the bead and the other like a pigs tail to thread onto cord. When I got all of them done I put a spacer bead between and put them on a cord so they are all different colored disks. They match anything. My daughter put it in her silent aution and the first person that came up said I will give you $50 for that right now because I can't stay for the day. Hey, it costs me maybe $10 to make. I cover salad fork and spoon with a pizza cutter for wedding gifts and pens in favorite colors. The fauxs work you do would be great for all of the things I do. Go for it. Oh, with the scrap clay there is a bead called a natasha bead. That is beautiful and fun. Better go get this show on the road. Hope to hear from you soon. Susan

I am good at natasha beads, but only because I give myself alot of material to make them with LOL Here's my links: http://www.bibelots.etsy.com http://www.flickr.com/photos/bibelots/sets/ that necklace sounds absolutely fabulous - Do you have pictures? I was looking at the utensils we have on the boat and thinking about covering them - My covering skills leave a bit to be desired. But it's fun practicing LOL

I haven't yet had a chance to work with polymer clay, but I would really like to. I've seen a lot of people make some really cool beads, and I'd like to give that a try some day. Making my own beads would be fun, as well as economical and all that fun stuff... I would also like to sculpt some random stuff... I saw some cute mice on etsy once, and I'd like to see if I could make myself a mouse sculpture and have it ACTUALLY look like a mouse....

There are alot of tutorials and projects on the internet to help you get started. Most of them can be used for beads or covering other items. www.polymerclaycentral.com It's a great resource for all things Poly Clay, and the message board is a great place for asking questions and getting some really helpful answers. Some of the people in that forum are really great PC artists in so many areas - beads, sculpture and much more. I spend waaaaay too much time there! #2 poster last month - how scary is that? LOL Just can't help myself - I have a lot of questions.
