There is no capital punishment in Canada. One of the arguments against it was if you executed the wrong man you could never give him back his life. There was a famous case about a man charles coffin the last man to be executed in Canada. He was said to have killed two american tourists. Years later it was found out that he never did it. That lead to a big debate and Canada decided to ban capital punishment.
Now with DNA testing, it is becoming much easier to tell who killed whom.
Do you believe in capital punishment?
or do you feel that nobody has the right to take another's life even the governnment?
or do you feel that mistakes still can be made even with dna testing?
give your reasons for or against.
I still don't believe in capital punishment, I think it is barbarous

I don't have a problem with it. It really irritates me when people get put in prison for horrible things and get put on parole or life in prison. I say just kill the person who killed, raped, or injued someone else. Yes that's harsh but that's how I feel.

This is a subject of much debate among people. To be honest, I am not sure How I feel about it. Sometimes I hear of mass murders and I think to myself "They dont deserve to live themselves". Then I realize that it is not my decision to make, it is God's call as to when life should be taken from a person. We are taught to not kill so if it came down to me haveing to make the dicision, I would probably choose to not have capital punishment.

We don't have capital punishment in Australia either & i have to say, i am against it - it's a cop out for the person who did wrong.
Think about it this way, if you take away the life of a killer - he never has to suffer, he is killed & that's the end of it.
I reckon they should just rot in jail until they die in there, then they have to suffer with the guilt of what they've done until the day they die. They cant just be killed & never have to regret doing it.
I don't think Australia has had capital punishment ever, but i could be wrong!
I think each country has a reason for their own decisions but for me personally, it's better to make someone suffer & have to live with the guilt of what they've done than to kill them so they never have to have regrets.

I certainly believe in capital punishment, for those who've done wrong. I think that they should make positivly sure that that person is the one that did wrong. If you execute the wrong person, its just a sad injustice in some places. I think thats wrong, its a big deal. So if you must execute wrong doers then please make sure you have the right criminal please.

I am against it. There are lots of reasons why. If the person is innocent then that is the most obvious one. Here in Britain we abolished Capital punishment in the end of the 195 or 60s I believe. I think it is wrong because taking a life as revenge for a crime seems wrong to me. It makes the law wrong. I know a lot of people have strong feelings about this, so I wll not say too much. There are very few countries that still exercise capital punishment. There are some that still have it but don't use it. Eventually I think there will be less and less, because I think it doesn't actually seem to make less crime anyway.

I'm kinda torn between being for and against capital punishment. I think if it's a brutal crime and there's no doubt about who did it then yes they should be executed. I just had a friend murdered this week and I hope they catch the guy who did it and I hope he fries because it was such a brutal attack for no reason

This is not an easy question to answer. In some ways I'm very much for capital punishment but I am also against it in other cases. Each case is unique and to judge all by the same sentence is not possible. Overall though I am for it. If you look at our past when criminals were judged more harshly. Were sentencing was carried out in short order and we did not bend over backwards for criminal rights our crime rates were lower. People were afraid of the consequences. Now though? Too many don't care. So I do six months in jail. I may have been sentenced for longer but due to good behavior and over crowding they will kick me lose sooner. That is the attitude with many of them. I'm not saying prison is a picnic, what I'm saying is for some it's not horrorific enough to keep them from doing the crimes.
Prison and capital punishment should be used as a deterant. To encourage people not to do crimes. It's also about keeping society safe. To prevent criminals from doing the crimes again. Capital punishment in some cases is needed to prevent such from happening. Some criminals will always be a threat and if they ever got out into society again they would continue their criminal activity. When you think about people like Ted Bundy, Dalmer, David Berkowitz (aka Son of Sam), Bianchi and Buono (aka the Hillside Strangers) and so many other seriel killers do you really want them to be able to go out into society and have your sons or daughters to run into them? I for one don't.

I think that you should never take someone's life away, it is not for us to decide who will live and who will die, it is up for each and everyone of us by himself.
Also I think that although you have DNA testing and everything there are always mistakes and in fact innocent people are still getting capital punishment in the US.

I think a better punishment is to make them do janitorial services in public restrooms. There was a time when I was for capital punishment. But I did not consider the other side which indeed raises an important what if you got the wrong man? Justice systems are not perfect.

With todays forensics if you are found guilty and the DNA evidence is conclusive then hang'em high.
I belive it shoudl be a way of dealing with murders but also child molester adn rapests and should be quick a year or two. If the evidence is there adn they are found guilty then yes if they found guilty but no real forensic evidence liek DNA then life

I have to say I am a bit torn. I have always had the attitude of let them die for their crimes. However there have been more and more cases of people that have been found innocent by DNA testing and other forensic advancements. So I guess that my opinion has become that execution should only be used if it can be 100 % proved that a person is guilty.
