What was your process for choosing your childrens name? Was it a simple thing or did you go thru a gruling (sp) process to figure out what to name him/her?
For us, it was a pretty simple process. Before we got pregnant we were already 'choosing' names for our children. We always played around with a few names, but there were a couple that always stuck and stood out. At one point we even got a huge baby name book, but never got anything from there. The day before our baby was born we decided on a name - it was the exact same name we had picked from the start. It was like we always knew it, but we wanted to explore other options. Sometimes you just come back to the 'classics'.
How did you decide your baby's name?

for my children, i am the one who chooses the name and just asked my husband for his opinion and fortunately he liked the names. i named my kids based on their grandparents name, for my daughter's name i got from their grandma and for the boy from their grandpa. well, i can say that i go for the "classic".

The way I picked my daughter's name is just the same way my mom picked her children names by let them choose themself. I continue her tradition.
During pregnancy, I will collect both names for girls and boys (first name). We put each name in small straw (we cutted them just like when you are doing a lottery)and separate them in boys and girls. Few hours after my daughter borned...my husband and I put those small straws on a blanket and let her small tiny litte fingers touch them, once she grabbed one....that will be her name. So, she choose her own name....

It's our normal tradition here that child name will be given/choosen by grandfather , but it's up to him whether to give his choosen name or will left for the father itself to select the best suitable name for his baby . Here mostly we prefer to take name from mixed arabic & malay language .
But sometimes , some prefer to combined both husband's & wife's name for e.g : YAsir + MAhAni = YAMAHA , NorsyamSU + MarZUKI = SUZUKI & more... that just e.g no one here named YAMAHA & SUZUKI ... : ) lol

I watched alot of movies while I was pregnant with my first two. My oldest ones name is Michael Rhett Butler Woods. I named him Rhett Butler from Gone With the Wind. My oldest daughters name is Aliena Starr Butler Woods. I named her Aliena from the princess off of Sin Bad Of the Seven Seas. Starr came from Lost Boys the female vampire.

I kept a notebook and everytime I came across a name I liked I wrote it down. I wrote down alternate spellings for some just so I could see how they looked.
My hubby was in Iraq so I would email him my list of names and he would tell me which ones he liked and disliked. We got kinda lucky, because there were only three names on the whole list that he really liked. One we both liked more than the other two and we used that for a first name then kept asking opinions about the others as a middle name. It was harder deciding on a middle name than her first name!

I had one name picked for my daughter that I really loved, Isabella. The meaning is beautiful too, (Child of God). I had a book of childrens names and it also gave the meaning of each name. My husband was not sure at first but he grew to love the name too. I think the meaning of the name is important.

Before my daughter was born I had a few names picked out and the one I intended to call her was Emma because at the time I liked that name. However when she was born one of the nurses asked me what I was going to call her and it just came to me instantly - Natasha! I had read "War and Peace" when I was pregnant and that's one of the characters in the novel. So it wasn't a name I had considered before but it just really suited her and I'm glad I went with it because I still like it now whereas I'm no longer as keen on Emma as a name!

My husband named my son, I'm not sure why he chose his name Curtis Dartanian Rosenau. I just don't understand his reason for chosing it, he says it just came to him the moment he was born. It was like he was given this name for a reason, like it was meant to be.

Well, my boyfriend and I sat down and agreed on a few names for both a girl and a boy. The girl's name I eventually went with was Addison. I really loved the name Madison but everyone was using it so when I heard Addison it was so similar but perfect so I decided on that. We also did a lot of thinking about what the initials would come out to. We heavily debated Layla but her initials would have been LD and I know everyone would be singing her the Eric Clapton song. We chose her middle name as a family name which is what we agreed to do for any future children too.

Well, for starters we wanted to be sure our children had their own unique first names. Meaning we didn't want them named after family members. We also knew we didn't want anything common - no names in the U.S. Top 100 for that year. That way our child would not have the same name as several other classmates each year. Then of course, we had to like how it sounded.
Of course, all those criteria made it harder for us to come up with names. We've named 2 girls and have a boy & girl name picked out for the 3rd child (I'm expecting). We used books, looked at any name we ever saw in TV or movie credits, and just kept our ears and eyes alert for any names we could find. We found it easier to come up with a boy name than girl names.

Congratulations on your soon arrival...I loved being pregnant,do you?
We too got our 'girl' name from a tv show that is no longer showing, but that was very close to my son's name. It's actually a deritative (sp) from my son's name. We had very similar first names picked out if it was a girl.
