Yes it is true that FrontPage is easier. It was designed for beginners.
The purists did call it a program for children.
At the time I was using FrontPage 98... you could almost build a webpage twice as fast with Frontpage than you could with Dreamweaver.
But FrontPage has its limitations... while Dreamweaver does not. Certain codes did not work with Frontpage.

I like to write my own code in HTML for many pages. But it is little easier in Dreamweaver. I also like Coffee cup HTML editor. These are good products but i never find much flexibility in their code. If i wanted a simple page it takes nearly 20 KB in these softwares but when i write my own code it just takes some amount of bytes. Size does matters.

Yes, Dreamweaver is very easy and effective web designing software. It has so many advance features on which you can work very easily. These feature are very easy to understand. In dreamweaver you have almost all web designing feature and options. Through Dreamweaver you can upload the files to remote server by using FTP options. Using Dreamweaver you can also make database driven websites. You can make dynamic pages in asp. There are lots of features. You can implement CSS Stylesheet very easily. You can do DHTML in your website very easily. You can javascript very easily.
So Dreamweaver is the best software to design a dynamic website.

Now a days I am trying to design a website using Dreamweaver. Of course it will be better if I can design a database driven website using Dreamweaver. ASP is really great for designing dynamic pages & CSS (Cascade Style Sheet) is also a good design tool here...

If you want to learn Html, then the best product is notepad, because you will have to remember all tags for your self. If you use Dreamweaver at start you easy get lost in the code provided by him. And there is also a problem if you use some of the beforehand code, because Dreamweaver put a lot uselessness in the code.
I am not saying that Dreamweaver is bad, because I use it myself to. But if you are a new to Html I recommend using of notepad.

Programs are made to save time and to give you the opportunity to create a website without having to learn html.
Programming in html these days is simply old fashion. The only valid reason for doing it... would be that you cannot afford to buy a program.
For the purists... if you don't like the codes of Dreamweaver... there is nothing stopping you from editing them to your liking.
I have built websites for 10 years without learning html. Even so... today I can read any html code and understand what it does. Because of that... I also know how to edit them. But I have not learned those codes by heart and I would not know how to write my own from memory.
The first 3 years I was using Frontpage 98... and for the last 7 years... I am using Dreamweaver. I currently use the version MX 2004.
I don't think it is an easy program to use or learn. Like every program... you need to put the hard work in it to learn how to use it. You probably could learn html as fast as learning on how to use Dreamweaver. But the great thing is that you can design a simple webpage without knowing anything. You just learn on the run as you add new things to your webpage. For the last two years... I have started to use CSS instead of html to make the pages load faster... even so... it hardly matter these days as everyone is on broadband.

Honestly I don't like to use dreamweaver and I tried using it before but it didn't satisfy me at all. I prefer to code my website than to use dreamweaver because I can able to do whatever I want. Yes I know dreamweaver really makes it easy but sometimes there are things you can't do in dreamweaver.
This is my website.

similar to microsoft frontpage, dreamweaver is a website builder that doesn't require html knowledge. the only problem is that such programs are never flawless. they contain small glitches where the codes could go wrong. if you code the website yourself, you know just what you're putting in and you avoid the problem of bad codes.

Dreamweaver is a HTML editor... its WYSWYG.. meaning What You See is What You Get.... you just design something and DW writes the code for you...
well DW is not the only HTML editor....there are many other HTML editors like Microsoft FrontPage...and Coffee Cup HTML editor...and many other....
i have worked with the HTML editors that i have just mentioned...but found DW the easier one to work with...

i refer html coding with notepad, my opinion is that when you make your website with dreamweaver your site looks different every browser. So I refer Hand coding, maybe you have to learn html-language more, but site works better and seems just like you want. So don't use dreamweaver, use notepad make your code your own hand.
I use dreamweaver only for text adding, but if i do structural changes my site or add something element my site i do it my own hand without wysiwyg automatic.
This is my last site its fully hand coding, and w3c valid too:

Dreamweaver still uses HTML Code. Dreamweaver, for me, is not a good drag and drop design tool for HTML. Compared to other similar WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editors, Dreamweaver is harder to use. Why, you don't really have the freedom to drag and drop.
I'd rather recommend these software for full drag-and-drop HTML:
1.) Microsoft Frontpage
2.) Microsoft Publisher (the one's used in making brochures, can make HTML too).
Dreamweaver is for quite experienced web designers. I use it to sort of preview the code i've hardcoded instantly. It is also good for text formatting and CSS but not for drag and dropping elements.
Hope this helps.
