Do you think that advertisers are using subliminal messages in their advertisements? Do you think that maybe that is another reason to add to the lists of why Americans are overweight and spend more money? Do You believe that subliminal messages works, that it can alter or help your way of thinking subconsiously? That is can help you lose weight, have more self esteem, quit smoking, have a better nights sleep? Ever wonder how subliminal suggestion work? Here is an Example: Remember the "Eat Popcorn" subliminal suggestions that was displayed during the movies in the 50s? It made everyone head for the popcorn stands and the theatres could not make enough popcorn to meet the demands most times. Subliminal messages are messages recorded at a lower volume level so low that it is to inconspicuous to the normal ear. Many believe the subconscious brain can hear and recognize these messages, and takes action on them. For example, "If you wanted to have better self- esteem the subliminal messages would be , "I like myself, unconditionally. Many studies say that it is the subconsious mind controlls actions in the consious mind and that subliminal suggestion cannot make you do something against your will that you don't want, that the subliminal messages will only help you do what you already want to do, you just have to be willing to follow the suggestion that your subconsious sends to your brain. Well, to test all these theories out I went and bought a subliminal cd for weight loss, cause I figure every little bit helps. I know I won't lose any weight if I keep eating like there is no tomorrow, and continue sitting in front of the television, without any more exercise than pushing the remote buttons or surfing the net, sititng in front of my computer .That I must take active part in losing the weight. Even with the subliminal messages I will have to exercise or atleast walk to lose weight. It won't be easy but I was hoping the subliminal weight loss cd would help give my brain a much needed boost. They are many types of subliminal messages CDs out and about to ,quit smoking, relaxing, having better self-esteem,weight loss, Do you believe in the power of subliminal suggestion? Would you do it? If so why? If not why?

It's hard to say.
If you believe, then even if subliminal messages do not work, your will power is helping. If you don't believe, of course subliminal messages will not work since you are actively resisting it. See the dilemma here? One will never know.

I do listen to music embedded with subliminal messages myself. Like you said, every bit helps. It doesn't matter whether it works. What matters is that I want to believe it works. Lol :P

this is a great topic, subliminals are used all over, grocery stores have been accused of using it. You see they can be visual or audio, the are programmed just below our conscious level, so the waking brain, they one we are using, every are not aware of them, but the mind will register anyway. It works the studies prove it. Would I use a subliminal to lose weight? Why would I not want to use a regular tape to use weight, if the message is the same?
I guess on defense of subliminals, the tape could be the sound of the ocean for example that I am actually listening too, and the subliminal is buried within it. It is a bad idea actually.

Thanks, I searched it before I posted it to make sure I wasn't going to step on anyone's toes and found they wasn't any discussions about it. I had just won my ebay bid for the subliminal weight loss CD and wondered what other people thought about subliminal messages. That is probably why I end up with tons of junk food and other food I really wasn't going ot buy..lol. Yep, it is the sound of the ocean I love hearing the ocean or the rain forest. So it is a bad Idea? I had thought maybe that it would help keep me focused and maybe motivated a little more because every little help is going to be needed. I think they should come out with a kids line of subliminal messages about being good and sharing and you know help with their manners and also learning ones to help with school. And maybe the should be added to cartoons and things kids watch. It would help them alot especiallt those struggling behind. If it can work in a store I can it can work for a school.

I say no to everything you just said. One, subliminal messages have never worked with me. Two, it is fact that before the invention of the buffet, only 10 percent of americans were over weight. Since then, it is now like 40 percent, maybe more. I honestly think it has to do with how people raise their children as well... who knows, eh???

Very bad. There are info about these form years '50 where in USA and in URSS tried to see the effects of this.
There are not info about URSS experiments and very few about USA.
About subliminal messages there is a book published 1957 by prof. Vance Packard (The Hidden Persuaders) that I recommend you because it is still a "must"!
Read this and you'll see that the situation in '50 is not so changed now in third millenium!
