I am in the same situation. My dog constantly nips at us and it does hurt. he won't listen to anything I say but when my bf is home he listens just fine. my boyfriend tell me that I have to show dominence over him but i really have tried and he just doesn't see me that way. he sees my bf as the pack leader and i am just one oh his pack friends lol..I was thinking of taking him to obedience school more so that I can learn how to be the dominent one so that he will listen to me.

I just research a while ago and I found out! that it is in the matter on how you treat your dog with respect and on how you show your firmness in your your command.. Give a sharp high pitched "Ouch", "stop" or "no bite" in a lower tone without yelling or verbally intimidating your dog".. i will try this one as i go home... try it too.... what kind of dog do you have?... it's a cute one in your display image.... Good luck to us!

Your dog nipping when he plays is just him playing. When he's playing with other dogs or in a pack, that is how they play. We had the same problem with my dog when she was a pup. First we yelled "OW!" really loud every time she did it even if it didn't hurt that way she would know we didn't like it. We would also stop playing altogether if she wouldn't stop. We also would put a toy in her mouth every time she started nipping and she eventually would just bring a toy over when she wanted to play, nipping it instead of us. I've heard the sour apple stuff works well but we didn't have to resort to it.

My pup did the same thing. When she would do it I would put my hand around her muzzle and tell her in a calm but stern voice NO BITE then refuse to play with her. After a while they will get the point. It only took her a week to get it.

It's really difficult to train a dog for mr because i don't know first what to do.. and also i'm pity to him if i hurt his feeling.. but when i found out that it's a part of training him good behavior then i tried to be firm in my commands and don't show pity on him....

This is so typical of young dogs. I have a dog who is only just two years old and she still does this sometimes. They are really only looking to play, but here are some helpful hints to stop nipping. The object is to be consistent: Puppies tend to nip a lot in play, and their pointy little milk teeth can easily puncture skin. Aside from the pain factor, a nipping puppy that does not learn to curb this behaviour will often grow into a dog that uses his mouth for rough play. While the intention is benign, the damage can be great, and a dog bite, is a dog bite according to the law. By starting young, you can easily teach your puppy or young adult that mouthing is just not acceptable. The most effective method is the "Yelp and Shun" method. Try "yelping" in a loud high-pitched voice when he bites. As soon as he lets go, turn away from him, and refuse to play any longer. This mimics the behaviour that his pack-mates would use when he gets out of line. Before long, your puppy will learn that using his mouth on his people cause his people to turn away from him. Other methods that may work with your dog are: "Trade". Trade me that arm for this toy, and you'll recieve plenty of praise when your chewing is redirected to an appropriate outlet. "Instant Muzzle". When your puppy grabs your hand, flip it around on him and wrap it around his muzzle, holding his mouth closed for a few seconds. This is not a pleasant experience, and many dogs often get the hint fairly quickly. Play biting can evolve into a serious problem, so it is best to find out which method works, and employ it to teach your dog appropriate play.

I agree with you and thanks.... Yes! i tried a lot on how to train him to behave... I already doing it now... and guess what... effective because you must just be dominant to him then praise him if he behaves in a right way.... Thank you anyway and God bless

We were told to get this product called bitter apple. We bought it at Petsmart and you spray it on the things you don't want your dog to bite. It can be clothes, shoes, yourself, furniture, anything. If they bark you can spray it in their mouths and they quit barking. It isn't harmful to the dogs or yourself so you may want to try that. It has worked with our dogs.

yeah ive been having the same problem with my landlady's dog. he's cute and very playful but sometimes he gets so aggressive that his nipping hurts so bad already. one thing that works for me is ignoring him whenever he tries to nip my hand. he usually stops wehn he gets the message that he won't get any attention wiht his nipping. good luck on your dog!
